what you make tricking in your life is what it becomes.. people have different priorities. But one of mye friends that I started to trick with (he would have killed me by now if he kept tricking) he got just bored of it so he stopped, but he is back in the game partly now, and he is still a great tricker.

There is always time for tricks, unfortunately things can restrict your progression as you cant train as much!
But tricking is something you can do just on the go and a trick here and there!
exactly but THIO doesnt even bother if he does come out he usually flips off nearby ledges when before he was chasing cheat 10's

Vince, Fusion... :(
I've "quitted" many times before, but I always return lol...
Usually because of school though. After getting a few assignments in a row, I just don't feel motivated to get back outside. For me, it usually takes a while to get back into tricking.
EDIT: My friend has also quit before, but he didn't really start in the first place, haha. If he doesn't get it straight away, he just decides that it's too hard.
exactly there surely is no need to quit full stop i cant imagine a life without tricking :'( guess i'd just start creating porn instead of samplers. . .

My friend Seth constantly says that he is going to quit tricking. He complains about not learning a new move in a long time. However, his basics are incredible because he has practiced them so much, he just has a mental block.
I think every time I've tricked with him in the past 2 months he claims that he is going to quit, but he comes back.

I myself start and stop all the time for whatever reason and it's almost never because of injury. Like it's been said, priorities change. I'm still debating whether or not I'll start again in the spring. Part of me knows I'd enjoy it but at the same time I feel I'm more interested in pursuing current goals full-time. I generally care for it less and less each year.
I suppose I have "quit"...
I still do tricks every once in awhile but I don't care about learning tricks or training.
People can't always continue to do the same things they did as a teenager into adulthood. They mature and their interest turns to other things, I guess.

well, there isn't a clear divide. it's shades of grey like anything.
in terms of tricking i, personally, don't care about anything but reaching the level i want to be at and being able to share it with people i care about. to be fairly blunt (as is typical of me) i don't really give a shit about the multitude of other facets tricking may have. battles, gatherings (this is different to me simply meeting friends who i've known through tricking), the tricking community, where everyone else is at with their skill levels, what's "cool" to do and what's not, tricking fads etc etc. all irrelevant. all i care about is eventually recreating what's in my head.
friendships (especially made through tricking) are separate to this. it's not exactly something i'd "quit" on haha

Some people stop tricking to race imports.
Lol, i know someone who quit tricking just because he couldnt do a backflip he always landed on his knees... i kept telling him youll never get better if you quit...
A friend of mine quited tricking this autumn, he found things he enjoyed more. He never said he stopped to trick, until recently. I guess it was because he didn't feel any progression.
I can't imagine to stop tricking. I have had periods with lack of motivation, but then somebody posts an awesome sampler and motivation is back :D

I am one of the people who almost quit tricking... Nearly 2 years ago, I had been training tae-kwon-do for about 1 year and a half and was able to do the splits...... and one happy Wednesday I went to the training session and during the flexibility exercises a very happy-go-lucky guy was nice enough to go "oh cool you can do the side split" and pushed my legs a "bit" too much. I had a tendon injury near the hamstrings, near the groin(sorry for the lack of terminology) and the doctor told me that I shouldn't run let alone jump(I couldn't even walk properly for 1-2 months) during the next 4-5 months. Aaand I was out. I had completely given up on tricking until August-September last year when I started over, having completely lost most of my flexibility and in need of a looot of conditioning.
Other than myself I know 2-3 tricksters who gave up on tricking, because they wanted to do "pure parkour" ~_~ Other people I know just couldn't progress and gave up as well... I don't really keep track of people who have given up or are doing worse than me, but don't listen to the advices I give them...

I quit because tricks got too easy and I got too good and I didn't want to make other trickers feel bad because I was so much better than them. I'm considerate like that sometimes.

I know someone who quit tricking because boyfriend at the time couldn't (no, wouldn't) even cartwheel, and had a bad jealous side.
The thing is, she could have been quite good had she stuck with it.

So hold on, you're calling your friend a prick because he now has a full time job, his own place and a family? Unfortunately that's called growing up.
I have never understood why people get angry when one of their friends stops tricking, I mean you can't expect someone to do a hobby for the rest of their lives. In the past i have seen people stop being friends because one of them stopped tricking, it's a complete joke really.

I wanted to quit tricking at one time. Then I realized it would've been WAAY too time consuming, and would likely have interfered with my tricking schedule.

i think anyone who has been tricking for a significant amount of time (over 4 years) has thought about quitting, or has been forced to quit due to injuries or other commitments.
People dont understand that if you've got a full time job and a family, you just dont have the time. Sure you can go out of your way and train whenever you have free time (not even once a week, once a month if you're lucky) you find yourself so tired that your tricks degenerate and make you wonder why you bother.
Other times you just think that you've reached your peak, that no matter how hard you try, you cant break the cycle and you find yourself competing between how you used to be and how you are now, when the fact is that you'll always go through skill cycles, for example your first session back after a 3 month break you wont be as able to throw the combos you used to when you'd been training 2x a week for the whole of summer. Its full of ups and downs.
I think to be honest that if you're really a tricker, you just cant quit. You have a desire inside that i honestly cant describe because you know you can do some incredible shit, regardless of skill level, and you always think that you can get it back if you tried.

I'm with Andy on this one. I've had over my fair share of injuries but each time I'm able to go right back to tricking and just continue drilling my stuff till i have it back and begin progression.
People have their lives to live and lets face it; tricking doesn't put food on the table for everyone.

Pretty much bullseye on how I feel, Andy .
It's all about how you perceive tricking, I guess. Some people look at it as just another hobby or entertainment, which makes it easier for them to stop tricking. Others grow attached and obsessive about it, which makes it harder to quit...

I don't see how it's even possible to quit. I don't ever plan on quitting. The only time i will stop is when i become to old to trick anymore or i contract AIDS.
It's one of the biggest things in my life. All my best friends are trickers (i rarely hang around with people that aren't trickers or hang around with people when trickers aren't present). It takes up an insanely large part of my life/conversation/thoughts.
Tricking is the best thing ever. PERIOD!

I think his problem is that his friend actually lied that he HAS to stop tricking instead of admitting that he simply wants to spent more time with his gf and all... And he has a pretty good point if you ask me
I think it has a lot to do with progression, eventually you'll dump anything when you feel it's not moving in the right direction (games, friendships, girlfriend), and I've sucked major balls recently. I just don't feel the "burn" anymore.
Maybe I'll try a phase of definite training before I call it quits. That would be the first time in those six years, though. haha
