I've been trying to get the splits for about 2 months now, reguarly stretching but seem to be making little progress... at best I'm about 8 inches from the floor.

However I can achieve Full split in an axe kick and outer crescent kick....
does anyone know why this is? and if possible tell me how I can get it like this on the floor?

Forward splits is one of my lifelong goals, so any help would be appreciated greatly, thanks :)

You will be able to achieve splits in a kick becauses that involves dynamic flexibility (http://www.trickstutorials.com/index.php?page=content/flx3#ddf) and splits on the floor will use static flexibility (http://www.trickstutorials.com/index.php?page=content/flx3#dsf)

You should aim to train both kinds of flexibility as they will both help to improve your splits:smile:

damn forward spilts is ur lifelong goal?!?!

i mean im not sayin thats a stupid goal at all but i mean wow. y?

i just never heard of that. shouldnt be that difficlut though. i got side spilts but not forward yet. but way i got sides was to just warm up ALOT like train ya know, than hits splits for like 30 seconds and hold your breath in for like the first 7-10 seconds. at least that what a tae kwon do teacher taught us. and im pretty flexible so yea!

man lifelong...hmm

Full splits in a kick but not static stretching aye, I dont even think that's possible. Unless you warm up alot more for the dynamic exercise and stop static stretching before your maximum length. Anyways, some good advice would be to stretch for longer and frequently (absolute minimum every 3 days), maybe try to strengthen the muscles that are limiting you. I'm keen to find out why the strengthening works, maybe some neurological changes.

You could try having someone apply pressure on your back leg, like where the hamstring is. That's what my wushu instructor did. He just stepped on me. But just LIGHTLY. Obviously don't have someone go stomping and putting all their weight on you haha. And when you're doing it on the floor, how are you doing it? I mean, do you support yourself with your hands? cause if that's what you do, you could try lifting your hands for a bit, or place your hands on top of your front leg or something like that.

What the fuck. I leave for a few months and this is the kind of advice people are getting?

Do not have people push on you when performing a split. Do not hold your breath. Do not lift your hands unless you have the strength to support yourself in a split, and given that you can't yet split I'm assuming you don't.

Work on all the stretches that will increase your flexibility and range of motion for all the muscles involved in the spit. This means hamstrings, hips, quads, everything. The biggest problem most people have with achieving the splits (besides misinformation) is consistency. You'll want to work on it every day, possibly twice a day. Your best bet is to work isometrics in, and make sure each time you perform a split you hold it for about thirty seconds. The best time for you to stretch is after a workout, when your muscles are warm and pliable.

The main page has all the information you really need, all anyone else is going to be able to do for you here is reiterate and condense that information.

Dynamic stretches happen very quickly, how are you certain you're kicking 180 degrees when you do them? It's hard to get an objective look at your own crowtch when kicking.
