Hi,

I'm Hugh, but you guys can call me Willhu.

I've been trampolining for about 4-5 years now, and I am starting to take an interest in gymnastics. There are several moves I need help with (mostly dealing with the fear).

ON TRAMPOLINE:
3/4 front somersault (crash dive)
Ball out (back landing, forward turnover to feet)
Barani (front somersault with 180 degree twist)
Back somersault: My only problem is FEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OFF TRAMPOLINE:
Front and back somersaults: Fear, again

Well, any tips would be highly appriciated!

Oh, if it makes a difference, I'm about 5'11" and 14.2 stone (early teens).

No, I have developmental dyspraxia which effects msucle tone and balance. Aswell as stamina and speed. So no, I only learned a tuck front a few months ago. But I did start at 8.

firstly, props for sticking with it and having dispraxia.

I would suggest getting a spotter to help with back tucks.

Ahhh yeah good for sticking at it man.

What any said is right though spotter is the best way forward, this will help with your spacial awareness of the move and getting over the fear.

MY ONLY problem with spotters is that the only two people who know how to spot a back tuck are about 5'4", and I'm 5'11". I remember dragging them both onto the trampolining bed once, after a back tuck... And I managed to elbow one of them in the face too...

Hahaha Dont worry man I got kicked in the face ones when spotting.

You should maybe try finding a gym somewhere nearly you? maybe joining a gymnastics class or attending open gym sessions, there are always coaches there willing to help you learn stuff regardless of how amazing or bad you are, you can learn alot of them guys

Maybe you should start doing some basic kicks for tricking? maybe slightly easier for you since theres not much fear in basic kicks?

Cause in you sig it does say you want to start tricking? so maybe being a pure kicker is the way to go?

don't worry man, you already got the frontflip on the trampolin, so you should be totally able to learn a backflip too. The tip with the coaches is really good. 2 of them can easily lift you through a backflip even if you fight it. After a few nearly totally passive backflips you should have enough confidence to aid the movement instead of fighting it, and from there you have something you can work on.

Another tip against the fear would be to do the trick on to something soft, but jump off from something hard enough that it wont hinder your jump. The best thing about this (apart from the fact that it's way more unlikely to get hurt) is the border itself, because you can trick yourself into a mindstate where you believe that everything behind you is soft like water or candyfloss or something and nothing can happen.
A trampolin is even better because it aids your jump of course, you may try to visualize a really soft landing surface anyway.

Ofcourse I don't know how dyspraxia feels, but it should be really helpfull for you to imagine yourself doing the trick in 1st and 3rd person as often as possible.

And train the separated movements of the backflip, which are only jumping up, while lifting your arms, and tucking your knees to your chest and grabbing your hands to your shins or the back of your thighs. You can easily train the first one by just jumping up, the second lying on your back.

The best thing would be to combine both methods, so while you're visualizing yourself doing a backtuck, atleast pretend the main traits of the motions of your limbs, and while you're practicing the seperated movements of the backflip, visualize what they cause/your position in relation to the room.

I don't know how hard these visualizations are with dyspraxia but the more you train it before you attempt the trick, the less likely you're going to freak out midair.

good luck man and don't get discouraged you're still pretty young, so if you don't get it that quick it doesn't matter.
