The piriformis syndrome is a condition in which the piriformis muscle irritates the sciatic nerve, causing pain in the buttocks and referring pain along the course of the sciatic nerve. This referred pain, called "sciatica", often goes down the back of the thigh and/or into the lower back. Patients generally complain of pain deep in the buttocks, which is made worse by sitting, climbing stairs, or performing squats. The piriformis muscle assists in abducting and laterally rotating the thigh.

Yes I believe I have this. Didn't know it back when I spent a whole bunch of money on tests which just led docs to make up a bunch of likely false conclusions. Is that all you wanted to know?

no i wanted to know how long it lasted and what did you do to get rid of it, so far i have physical therepy twice and nothing has helped. and it really stunts my tricking
My brother and I have also experienced something like this but it was probably more like tendonitis of the iliopsoas or something

I occasionally get some kind of ass cramp or a feeling I just pulled a glute. It's rather annoying. Nothing like what is being described here though.

I get something like this. It's a pain in my butt-back. It's hard to pin-point the exact location.

Foam roller and tennis ball use has been somewhat successful with me (look this up on youtube or T-nation). Piriformis stretches help a lot too.
With me it seems to flare up the most after a lot of activity that involves hard contact, like say runnning. I have not yet experimented to see how well the above methods deal with very serious pain. And I have had it very seriously at times, often making me limp and once or twice making me unable to walk unassisted altogether. In such cases, it was all Ibuprofen, though I'm trying to have to never use that again, given how much of it I used when I was younger.
