View Full Version : Jacknife, staying upright

My biggest issue with the Jacknife right now is staying upright during the second kick. I can't seem to force it, I just automatically lean back, sometimes 100% horizontal.
I celebrate in the video because that was the first time I'd ever landed it solid, it doesn't look that great.

If you have any tips for the cheat9, they are welcome as well
A lot of people lean on a jackknife.
You kinda have to on a hook kick...but leaning back is different than hunching over.
So try and keep your shoulders / chest high and in line.
Practice cheat 720s and really focus on what you are doing with your upper body.
Try and replicate that in your jackknife.

thanks I'll try that, it is more hunching that leaning. I'm treating it too much like a 540 at the moment, and not enough like a cheat 720
Flexiblity, makes the jackknife a lot easier.

yesss.
i had the same problem for a very long time.
like if you compare here @ 1 minute 24 seconds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuPGnFRWEVk) to here @ 1 minute 3 seconds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wk4ZUoAop10) you can see the difference.
all i really did was keep focused on turning the shoulders and keeping my body high.
you will find this goes for most hypered hook type tricks. you almost need to over rotate or atleast think over rotate in order to get your hips turned over. unless you are super flexxy haha.

gotcha. There was definately a difference in the whiping of the shoulders in the vids.
Actually that helped me understand it a lot better, I was just trying to pump the foot down after the first kick really hard. Tomorrow it's back outside to do more jacknives, and hopefully combos
its all about twisting over.
just think of it simply. the faster you can get yourself around, the more time you'll have to get that hook out.
one thing i noticed was that you stop your twist after your first kick (540). as you go up, spot, then as the kick comes out, twist over and wrap everything in. that should get you to wrap around and spot your target for the hook. :good: looking good though :D
for c9. try thinking about wrapping more than jumping up high. the faster you wrap the easier it will be.

wrapping and spinning faster seems to be my issue with everything currently
