ahoy chaps.
Im doing a highest jump kick competition at a TKD tourney next weekend, and i'm wondering what you think would be the best trick to get the most height.
I can get around the 8ish feet mark on a 360:

any thoughts?

sounds fun

the highest ive ever seen was i think kimdo, he did some kind of split kick but with the split being almost vertical, he didnt land though, i dunno if you have to land it on your feet

I would say a 540 with a good layback:good:
...Probably doubleleg too!

David D - yep we've got to land on our feet.
I might try a tornado or 540, i think ill stick with the 360 for my main one though.
i'll try and film it anyway.

I don't know the rules for the competition, but with a good pop front you could achieve massive height, like Jason Tankson

i get the best height on pop setups, too.

HAHAHA
HOLY NUTZ
Tony jaa gets massive height on his 540 (I think he uses 540 anyway). Personally I get most height out of a jump front.

haha thats some fucking vert right there.
--haydn: when tony jaa did his highest layback 540s etc he often put one or both hands down on the landing, i dont think i'll be able to get away with that.
rollspike..
holy balls! that Jason Tankson vid was crazy

I wonder if a raiz or sideswipe might have the potential to have a higher kick than a tornado or 540.
How about a moonkick (i.e. slant gainer + hook/axe)?

i think chrisdee is still one of the best when it comes to high kicking, his vert is truly sick and he could kick through the roof with his kimdo kicks
or the last kick in here :dead:

kris, i'd love to see you double gyro that haha

Mar-21-09, 03:33 PM
badass
i'm a fan of 540gyros
i cant do a real 540 gyro or how you call it. but from a pop setup it becomes much easier for me. im a noob at kicks actually, have to learn to use my hip o_o. 360 crescent/hook double gyro is what im more close to :D

You should use a front sweep.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0E-OUX8KIfkHe meant to do that last thing?
Can you do a standing Flash kick for the competition? I dunno if that'd be higher than an 8' 360 crescent though...

kim do!!!!
TKD_Andy
Mar-22-09, 01:03 PM
i was thinking kim do, but i've got to do it onto a target pad and taking off backwards for it might prove a little hard
i did some squats to level up my vert today, lol
Valera kick (pop 540 style doubleleg), roundoff-180 turn raiz-type roundhouse kick oooor a j-step setup gainer kick without following through.
OR you could just (if it's up against a wall or something) do a jump scizzor and land in front splits on the wall. I think someone did this before for a world record height thing.

well, jump/flying front kicks aren't really tricks, but you can get some serious height on them! a few years ago (I was like 12 or 13), I could kick a pad, held by a guy (around 6'0 tall) standing on a chair and two bigger kicking pads - and I bet some of you guys could get a lot higher! if it has to be a real trick, 360s or tornados are probably your best bet man

its at a TKD comp, im sure they wont mind
He meant to do that last thing?
Yeah, It's called a back break fall. He probably did it so high to show his control.

Pop 540, personally I get wayyyyyyy higher in these than in pop 360s.

rndoff-flash or rndoff-bhs-flash would be effective too

Mar-22-09, 03:37 PM
a good old fashioned flash kick :juji:

oh I see, I though you were talking about the floor :P
so I agree with Jan

I also think you should train kim do's or a singleleg maybe....since pop tricks are your strength and theoratically a Kim Do or Singleleg can hit alot higher then a pop3 if the setup can be used to maximum efficency

Mar-22-09, 04:33 PM
You're definitely going to get most height with a pop setup. 360 kick would be the best option :good:
Edit: Given that you can't be using gainers/flashkicks and all of that jazz ofc...

I honestly don't know what this would be. I've kicked the rim on a regulation sized basketball goal [10 feet] with a Crescent Singleleg-Sidekick before, but I've seen Danny Graham scrape the ceiling of hotel rooms with just his tornado kick!!!
Danny's power and extension is incredible...I'm sure anyone who was at that epic target kicking session at CLN 06' could tell you...and that's back in 06'.
