View Full Version : Tricking in shallow water?

I just got this idée seeing as I’m about to start swimming. I got thinking what if I train tricking in shallow water? I know I can do front-flips, handstand, cartwheel and lots of other things in shallow water. So I’m just wondering if anyone else had tried this and gotten any results if so I would love to hear them. Seams like a good way to get familiar with tricking in general and how your body turns.

:good: I won’t kill myself or others if I fail and “fall” on my ass
:good: My weight won’t matter that much I water
:good: Every thing will be in “slow-motion” so it won’t be that hard to know where my body is

Man I so excited when I get semi-valid ideas that might work : )

Lol.

Have you watched Dogen's "H2O" tutorial? He talks a lot about practicing things in water such as kicks, set ups (j-step, b kick step thing) and crap like that. Post back if you feel any changes.

seems kinda pointless :eh:

you may aswell just do it on grass and get used to falling on your ass.

Man that’s so cool that is pretty much exactly how I made it up in my mind is was going to be. I’m definitely going to plan that in to my routine while swimming. Maybe add an extra hour or so to just fool around with tricks. AWESOME.

@ Jo>.<el
Yes I can image that it might be harder in snow haha.

Fun? Man I’m having so much fun just planning I haven’t even started the fun part yet.:good:

Sorry was typing while you posted.

Falling on my ass you say? This time will come my friend it will come. Thu I am planning on easing in to it. If I go in to max gear I have nothing to progress to until my body catches up and that may take some time. Besides I would not want to scare all the nice little Swedes with my seismic activity now would I.

trust me man, if you learn to fall on grass from the beginning it'll be better.

If you build yourself up its only going to hurt more, you'll get hurt more and take longer to recover. If you start on grass you'll get used to the small falls etc from the beginning.

tbh man starting out tricking in shallow water will only hinder your progress, i just cant see any benefit to it. But still, prove me wrong man :good:

Bruises doesn’t hurt me they bring out my eyes fuck ye.:good:

But just to prove you wrong I’m still going to train in the water hehe.
(not being sarcastic I will also train on grass/gym floor… concrete?)

noo dont train on concrete man, especially if you're just starting out. The only thing i'd ever advise practicing on concrete would be standing martial arts kicks, nothing more.

ive fallen over loads on grass (not suprising), it gets rid of alot of fear and opens up alot of doors to new tricks that you can try any time.

noo dont train on concrete man

hahaha don’t know why but that sounded like a high hippie when I read it. Not worries mate was only kidding about that part. But seriously thou thanks for convincing me to train on “hard” surface. I really think it might be wiser to toughen up my body early on then to wuss out.

shallow water only breaks your fall slightly. then the concrete pool floor breaks yourned ass. just trick on grass its softer.

How shallow water are we talking? foot-, knee- or chest-level?

foot-level doesn't do anything really
knee-level means its harder to jump and won't really help in a crash.
Chest-level makes it impossible to jump at all. not really but you wont be able to leave the water. You could train kicks in chest-level water like you said, it may helps building the right muscles.

What you should try is getting ankle- and wrist-weighs and go into 3 m deep water so you can stand on the bottom of the pool and train corks, gainerflash etc. (It'll be like slowmo!) That could lead to better technique or drowning. I don't know. Post vid either way!
No, seriously, this would be so cool.

When I said “shallow water” I men that the water line would be around (in my case man boobs) not like knee high. I would never do a front-flip at that water level if I slipped on the landing I would brake both my asses. Before any of you say “well in that case anyone can do a front-flip” well that’s the point. I have never done any tricking but the idée of my original post was not to supplement ground for water just use water to get the general feel for the trick before actually starting the real training on grass/gym-floor.

@Moijn001
This is exactly what I mean. who’s the man yo the man.

And as for filming the location I’m going to swim in actually has an underwater room designed for this purpose. So you parents and friends can watch you under water without getting wet. So vid will be supplied fear not friends.

Waow, that's great! I wanna try this to but the public pool probably won't allow me. = (

I'm not totally sure how shallow we're talking, but I used to train in my pool over the summer. I'm a little over 5 feet tall and my pool was 4 feet tall. Not all tricks that you practice in the pool will help make them better. But I think drilling my kicks in the water helped a lot with getting more power in my kicks. The water resistance is pretty helpful.

Yeno what, before I even looked in this thread I got sorta a different idea about tricking in shallow water (say, up to right above ones knees).

Water offers a lot of safe resistance to ones movement, so by practicing tricks like 540 Gainers in varying levels of water, one can give themselves varying levels of resistance in doing each trick to help increase their strength/power.

Either that or it could make you fall and die but heck worth a try hahaha.

Because I need to get away from the computer to actually start train. I will still linger in the forum every few days, but I will no longer be a participant in any forum discussion. unless it is directed to me. i may post vids on my Progress on the http://trickingtube.com/index.php website. but other than that you wont notis me much.
