i've just been wondering for awhile if it's possible to build dynamic flexibility beyond what you're capable of for static flexibility. i'm thinking probably not but some of you probably know better than i do.

I have quite good dynamic flexibility, but my static sucks a lot ... Conclusion ? I dont have to warm up to reach my maximum in kicks, but my kicks sucks too :) So both are important. One affect the other, so do both and youŽll be happy :)

If that's the case, then there's a high risk of it being ballistic.

There is a difference though, becausee static flexibility, and the ability to isometrically support yourself in a static position.

For example, in the splits, up until you're fully flat on the ground, your muscles have to hold you up. That is hard to build. You don't need that type of strength to be able to do the splits, nor to kick as high as the splits. It is apparently helpful though, and healthier and more functional.

Even so, you have contortionists and dancers who train this type of flexibility using partners and bars, so they would have kicks like that, but not be able to support themself in a static-isometric stretch.
