Practice them on grass and sand, there almost like concrete.
Even concrete is better, cause u will get higher cause u have no resistance.

I wouldn't advise trying on concrete till you have them pretty good haha bailing on concrete, not fun :(
Also to overcome fear just get a spotter and a mat and keep at it until you grow balls

the way you put it strongly implied (not even implied, it's exactly what you said) that it was a really good idea to practice on conrete because it gives you more height than grass or sand

Ok for one download the tut on the home page. To make it simple try the move on a soft surface, either in a gym with crash mats or grass. If you are extremely afraid of the move get a spotter to flip you over a couple times. First throw your arms down then bend your legs close to a 90 degree angle. Keep eyes a bit above head level never look away from that spot in the process of doing the move. Swing arms upward all the way up and jump up with everything you have. After you peak your jump bring your hands around your knee's rotate and release your tuck. Don't release to soon bring the tuck all the way threw. Hope this helps:juji:
spotter would be the best to help you actually jump up and not back
I failed by learning the backflip without spotter and now I fail :(
