So far 2009 has been a pretty craptacular year of tricking for me!!!
I seem to be in kind of an injury plateau type of thing. (Instead of having a tricking plateau where I'm not getting any new tricks or not improving), I'm getting injured all the freaking time.
First I rolled my ankle on just a round off back tuck back in February.
Then a month later after no tricking I rolled the same ankle doing an illusion twist.
Then a month later after no tricking I rolled my other ankle doing a scoot s/t nothing.
Then I almost hyper-extended my knee doing a tornado kick, luckily it just was like a really tiny almost hyper extension type of thing.
Its not like I'm tired, I or sore, or its not like I'm tricking cold, it just seems like every time I go tricking I get messed up.
Have anyone else gone through periods of just constant injuries?
If you did, how'd you get out of that cycle?
Even if you didn't go through this b.s., does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do to fix this problem?
Thanks
Do you have any other hobbies that have something pyhsically demanding to do with it?
I used to be accident prone when I was a AM-skateboarder there was like a 4month span where I got hurt doing stupid stuff for no reason. I was also a county badminton player at the time and even though it has nothing to do with skating, just due to the demanding aspect of competing more and skating less, it flushed out the old habbits and memories and I could just get one with it. Just doing something else can help.
Might not work, it helped me though

I've popped my left knee cap out 3 times this year so far!
Once during wrestling
Once doing a front kick (haha I know)
and once doing a double flash kick (and I was landing on my right leg, wtf?)
I popped it out once last year too doing a 540 kick.
basically, it happens, I got an industrial strength strap/brace with 8 straps on it, it locks my knee into place, and I haven't injured it since. That's how I broke the cycle (two of these injuries happened within a week of one another)
I suggest you do calf and shin raises for your ankles, it will strengthen them helping to reduce the risk of injury, or for a quick fix just get a strap for it. For your knee, do leg lifts and squats, it will strengthen the tendons and make injuries less likely.

That's all good and stuff.
But your still in the mental cycle of having the injury bugging you, and until that goes you wont trick properly.
On the other side I did have problems with my ankles, wore a strap every time I tricked for around 4months, and this allowed my ankle to get used to the impact of tricks and strengthened my ankle. Now I never injury it and if I roll it, it doesnt hurt

True the mental side of things is important, and the strap for my knee helps a ton. I don't even think about injuring it now, and I forget to put it on. That's why I recommend it.
But yes, work on not being worried about injuries first.
If you're prone to spraining your ankle then I'd suggest wrapping your ankles. It helped me TONS

[QUOTE=Bozzy;1215820]Do you have any other hobbies that have something pyhsically demanding to do with it?
I started training at this martial arts school this year pretty seriously, we do mma, kickboxing, brazilian jiujitsu and krav maga. Thats really about the only hobby or other activity that ive been doing recently.
I have thought that it might be mental thing too.
I have also been tricking pretty heavily in gyms this past year too, just for the fact that there really isn't trickable grass during winter in Colorado.
I haven't really ever hurt myself on really advance moves either in the past, well thats a lie, once when I first started tricking, I fucked up my ankle doing a move way to advanced for me. But in the past year I havent hurt myself on anything but basics and riduculously easy tricks.

1. Are you letting each injury recover?
2. Are you stretching and warming up before you session tricks?
3. Do you go straight into trying new tricks when you start or do you do a few old ones!
4. Do you rest/Sleep much?
First of all if you trick on a half injured ankle or whatever(guilty) You start to adjust adding more weight on other body parts which could be weakening them.
Also maybe try following juji's Tier's its always good to stretch/walm up then do some common tricks you have good control over, i always pull out some kicks c7s, and some slants and corks because i do them alot maybe a back flip or two as well, This will help you get into the mood and get your body moving fast and more responsive.
And sleep man and rest, Are you possibly over tricking or not sleeping enough maybe exhausting yourself mentally and physically through something else?
And something else random, How is your diet? do you eat well or consume much alcohol, i know this is getting far fetched but your body is stronger when its healthy!
Just a few things to think about man =D

Well when I hurt my ankle for the second time(right ankle) Hurt it in beginning of February, then re-injured it about a month later. So well that was a matter of not completely healed injury.
The other injuries aren't caused by previous injuries.
Ive been getting plenty of sleep, plenty of exercise, proper nutrition. I do warm up stuff before a throwing some harder tricks, like I'll do a little bit of running, basic kicks.
Although I've been just hurting myself on the warm up stuff.
Thanks for all your advice everyone.
BTW to Carney, your last few samplers have been just awesome, I really like your style. All your effort that you've put into corks is definently showing, they are sooo nice, keep up the good work.

Well man all i can really say is maybe while your on injuries and half injuries just try and have a bit of rest, if your interested maybe spend some time in the gym and muss up always helps reduce injury and will give time to heal, not saying quit tricks just trick less, Also if that's not an option maybe just find a few tricks or basics to drill for the next month or two that don't jar or put to much pressure on the injured areas!
Either way good luck with it mate really hope its just a freak thing or you have just been really unlucky and the curse will stop and you'll be progressing again in no time!
Thanks heaps to man, I'm glad you enjoy my corkscrews and my style  , Only a short time now and ill have consistent cork S/ts and Doubles  Thanks for the support!:juji:
