View Full Version : How long does a toe sprain generally take to heal?

So I know it probably varies depending on the injury, but basically I fucked my toe up on the trampoline yesterday. I was wearing socks and after a stupid backtuck to front tuck (most retarded thing to get injured on) my foot slipped and my entire body landed on my big toe while it was folded the wrong way.

Now the base of the toe is somewhat swollen and bruised and it hurts to walk on it/bend it. Are toe sprains generally as long lasting as ankle sprains and such? Just trying to figure out about how long I'm gonna be out for..

I've wrapped it in tape and iced it and am keeping it elevated as much as I can to take care of it.. I want to trick T_T

While I'm at it, are there any significant differences between using medical tape and just regular adhesive tape to tape my injury? lol.. I really don't feel like making a trip to the store and this adhesive tape is holding up like a champ.

Sounds like a case of turf toe. I hate to break it to you but this injury will last you for quite a whileeeee, longer than an ankle sprain probably would.

It depends on the kind of adhesive tape, but medical tape is made because its best suited for the job. Learn how to tape your toe for turf toe even though it probably wont help much.

Haha well that's a bag of bad news right there =[

So it's definitely not just a sprain? I mean even if it lasts longer than an ankle sprain, I'll be able to trick on it sooner because it's just a toe.........right =[?

Edit: Did some reading on it, I read on one site about some pretty drastic permanent effects from turf toe, so it's not just a really bad sprain? Time to get my scissors and cut it off..

How long did it take for it to heal for you?

It took me 4 months, although I was stupid enough to continue tricking on it for a couple of days after hurting it initially.

After those 4 months it wasn't completely healed but I ended up falling over and doing exactly the same thing to it so I'm out with that again. I've been looking after it a lot better this time though and it's nearly as fixed as it was last time after about a month/month and a half. I'm gonna give it longer before tricking on it again though >_> (obviously).

In conclusion toes can go fuck themselves.

The big toe is a lot more important than you think, just because it's your toe doesn't mean the effects won't be as drastic as an ankle injury.

If I remember correctly, a sprain that you are describing is turf toe.

It's not a kind injury because of the lack of blood flow so good luck.

fuck. well my concern now isn't healing time, but it healing completely.. I guess I'll just stay off it until it's fully healed, if that even happens

god damnit :(

I've had this as well, way back in high school. For me it took a long time to heal, and even now I have a pretty restricted range of motion. Take it easy the first few times you trick as well, it's all too easy to re-fuck.

I've had that, it's never really healed and I can't do lunges properly on one side anymore, apparantly the joint capsule gets messed up, so if you can rest it shit loads and dont push it's ROM too hard for a while. If you can find some good treatment for it, do it, and recommend it to everyone!

well i'm determined to get better. after a few days it's already looking much better and feeling twice as good. definitely won't be tricking on it for at least another couple of weeks, though, but i won't give up >:[

I wouldn't worry bout it Rizz, different strokes for different folks but I'd say just stay positive about this. It could be fine by next week for all you know.

Haha, what a shitty injury... Of all things, toe injuries have to be persistent and take forever to heal.

Mabye you could target the cause of the issue so it doesn't happen again, like stretching calf muscles and strengthening tibialis anterior and some coordination exercises - but that's going full steam ahead for a minor injury.

lol this is the worst news bringing thread ever :(

Honestly, I'm not too worried.. my toe is feeling much better already. Though it's still purple on the side haha.

Thanks for all the info :D

I land on my left big toe all the time, sometimes when I walk in sandals as well.

It gets red and swollen for a few hours, but after four or so it's back to normal. I think I land on that toe so much that I'll never know if I break/sprain it.
