View Full Version : Weight lifting hooks

It seems pretty useful to me, for example on lat pulldowns, my grip on the bar seems to go before my lats even feel any burn.
Only downside I see is potentially getting a weaker grip if you use it too much and looking like a retard in the gym.
Your thoughts?

I'd suggest gaining more control in your muscles, specifically lats, if you want to 'feel the burn' in them.
Anyways, straps are a cheaper and equally efficient way to go about this situation, especially, if you're only worried about your lat pull downs.

Completely unneccessary for lat pulldowns. The only exercises I can really see them being useful, is for higher rep sets of deadlifts, if it's a lot of weight, and they're used rarely, and maybe heavy shrugs or something. Straps would be more than good enough, and really, I doubt you need them either.
If I were going to get hooks though, I'd rather get these:

I find that when I let go in a pulling exercise, it's often more due to skin-pinching pain than fatigue in the finger flexors. So properly padding them to avoid pinching (weren't there some weird orange plastic things that you put around that pinches less but works fingers more because you have to squeeze?) would help to clarify the issue.

Don't lie Ashtar, we know you don't lift anything heavy.
I've seen people use those thin rubber squares (designed to help the elderly ladies open their jam jars) to assist their grip and protect their precious hands from callousing.

Compleks: I am heavy, I lift myself. Anyway, this is a universal principle, it applies to anybody who has trouble lifting things, not just heavy lifters.
I probably pussy out sooner because I get pinched more by weight since I have more loose hand skin or something.
