i've been having this thing for two days now, and it starts to annoy me cos i can't workout properly because of it..
it feels like my veins would explode because of the intense blood flow. and i'm not talking about a post-workout pump, i mean it actually really hurts.
it appears only on my right upper arm, and i feel it only when i stretch and when i try doing pushups. benching and stuff..
got any idea what it might be?:eh:
EDIT: it's actually so painfull that i litteraly collapsed during my last pushup attempt

Sounds like it may be tendonitis of the pectoralis major. I don't think it would be from some bursting veins though, unless you get massive bruising after your workouts. The "intense blood flow" may just be inflammation. If you're worried about it, go get yourself checked out, or if it doesn't go away after a few weeks of rest, get yourself checked out.

holy crap! luke are you just trying to scare me or are you actually being serious?
oh and @jack: so basically whaat u are saying is rest & no more workouts for the next couple of weeks?
also do you think that medication would help? i was thinking maybe lovenox or something...?

Yep, minimise the use of the pectoralis major for a couple of weeks, that doesn't mean you can't train legs or abdominals or anything. Medication may help acutely, like right after you do a chest workout in reducing pain and some inflammation, but won't do too much to enhance recovery and healing. I don't know what lovenox is (sounds like the opposite of viagra), but if its anti-inflammatory it may ease some discomfort- but won't exactly help. If its still bad after you rest it for a while, go see a doctor or physio (or do that now), you make even get to use steroids! After about 2 weeks of resting it, ease back into your workout's volume and intensity very slowly, like over 2-3 weeks.

i just wanted to check if anyone else here has the same problem too and what their experiences were with it. i was going to see a doctor anyways.

When I saw bursting veins, I thought blood clot. Since there isn't proper blood flow in your arm, that's probably why it hurts and feels like it's about to burst. It can't be tendinitis in your pectoralis major cuz there aren't tendons in the actual pectoralis major. >.> But if you have trouble lifting your arm then you may have tendinitis in your rotator cuff. It doesn't sound like it though.
Try massaging it out or taking excedrin since it will thin out your blood a little. If you go see your doctor, they'd probably tell you to come back in two weeks if it's still hurting.

So if there's no tendons how does the muscle insert? Just a thought...

This I know, but as far as I can tell she's saying that it has no tendons, also in the original post he says he has the pain in upper right arm.

Yes but there are multiple possible causes for the pain, if someone on here says it's something and to do this about it, you do and it turns out the person was wrong you could end up with a bigger problem then you started with. Because of that I generally tell people to go get things checked rather than listening to some of the stuff that gets posted here.

oh no no i mean I was just thinking there can't be tendinitis in an actual muscle, like it would be named after a joint instead. But I just looked it up and it can be called that. So nevermind. lol

i took lovenox (which is mainly the same as excedrin, i just happened to have it at home) the last two days, and actually it got better..its not completely gone yet, but at least i can move it without feeling pain..though it comes back when my pulse goes up..
i guess i'll just wait a couple of more days and check up with the doc then..
oh and @ caveman:
sry man, i was a bit harsh. you were actually just pointing out the facts..

-_____- yeah and if I, who's been in school the past two years to be a nurse doesn't even know that there's such thing as pectoralis major tendinitis... how are you gonna trust anyone else in this forum?? haha.. jp. I was kinda right though. It's more "Pectoralis major insertion" tendinitis. It just didn't make sense to me that there'd be tendinitis in the middle of the pecs. Then again, he never said that so I don't know, I assumed.
But whatever, I'm just putting two and two together from what I've picked up. Plus, I had rotator cuff tendinitis a few months ago and I couldn't lift my arm to change the radio stations while driving. So I doubt it's that. And I had that bursting vein sensation like a week ago in my forearm. I just tried to do whatever I could to get my blood flowing and it went away after a day or two.
