Ok, I just had a look at the "titanium kankles" thread, with this dick dude and his bands, and he breaks some table with his ankle.. And everyone else saying dogens stuff is useless. I'm just wondering what everyone else here does for their ankles? I had a bad sprain like 8 months ago, and it still isn't that much better. Should I go with dogens method, or look into getting some bands? If so, what kind of band do I need to get? Will the strongest amount of resistance I can get, from like a sports store, be enough?
Is there anything else in general I can do? I need to be able to not be scared of doing my ankle while tricking / or some light parkour..mainly tricking though. Any help on this would be great =/

I would probably consider starting with some ankle exercises.

i personally do the dogen titanium ankle excersices everyday and it works really great, depending on what youre looking for
it's a great way to strengthen your shin muscles and its also pretty good for training post injury
i fractured my tibia and tore every ligament in my right ankle and a month after getting the cast off, still hurt like hell, but since i started the dogen routine, it feels a lot better and you'll notice the difference

Try something 3 x 5 or 5 x 5esque on 'em, add weight after every successive workout, see if that works. Alternatively do some walking with a heavy backpack or something.

I think a better question would be, what have the people who hadn't had recurring ankle instability/injuries after their intial injury been doing for their ankles? I doubt anyone in this forum can actually answer that though.
I consider myself lucky in the strong ankles department with never having any ankle related injuries or problems after tricking for almost 3 years now, and even though I havn't tried any ankle specific training I have looked over them and am just curious why all the hate for dogens tutorials, I have seen it before and it seems useful and well planned out imo

If you do get an injury, you'll realise, just doing Dogen's isn't going to get your ankle better. It's only part of the process of getting your ankles back, with the rest being stretching and/or release techniques and coordination exercises, in my opinion. If you did dogen's exercises, stretching and coordination exercises you may have less risk of an ankle injury if you haven't had one previously.
Dogen's rep scheme for the exercises are a little off too from what I can remember, he suggests you fatigue the muscles as much as possible, or go untill you really feel a burn? That will most likely predispose you to an injury if you trick within a couple of days of doing them. But I may be one of those forum members who gives bad advice, so you never know!

Dogen's thing was a prehab not a rehab. Anyway I think I do recall him promoting stretching and stuff too.

Bad sprains take much longer to heal than people think, that is if they do at all without some physiotherapy assistance.
When you get an injury your body compensates to try protecting the injured area, so when you sprain an ankle badly it will often not give you the full range of motion you need, which can lead to further injury. Also a bad sprain will possibly be still swollen slightly a long time after the initial injury as your body tries to protect it.
Basically that means there'll be multiple issues that need fixing in order to get your ankle back to the way it was before.
Even more basically; see a physio.
Right now, ive sprained my right ankle playing football (soccer). but i rly want to train my legs up. is it a good idea to do squats with a limited ROM (not so limited it that its retarded) so its comfortable for my ankle?
i know i can deadlift without it hurting etc

I think inversion table strengthens ankle. Also, if you cling your toes on to a beam and pull with your toes.

If the injury is fresh I'd recommend against it, as your ankle will currently be weaker than usual and not have the ability to take a lot of loading safely.
If the injury is beyond the initial stage, as long as you can get full ROM from the ankle you should be ok.
