Anyone have a trick that is taking you a long time to get, say what trick and how long.

everything I can do now took me pretty damn long to get, actually.
Basic Aerial. This is month #4

doublecork is out of my league :(
B-twist. It took me months.
Corks actually came pretty easily to me, only took a month or two, they're not consistent on grass, though.

Gymnast aerials took me foreevveerr. I think a year. I don't think I've attempted corks enough so that doesn't count. lol

same with me on gymnast aerial holy shit those gave me hell, the biggest thing that got me them was when i finally got a trampoline and was forced to learn to use my hips on it cuz you cant really properly karate aerial on trampoline.. one day the hips just clicked now aerials are my best asset.

I'm going to have to say aerial even though I've had it before. I do mean a real vertical aerial of course. It's been very inconsistent and I've had it on and off for years. Other than that probably any kind of gainer.
Wow! Everyone is saying aerial! I cant wait to continue to drill this move until my eyes fall out! Lol.

I'd probably say b-twist. I have this pattern where I learn a move, lose it then learn it again and keep it but my b-twist has always been on and off countless times, off at the moment.

It took me ages to learn all of my moves, and then I drilled the shit out of them.

May-13-09, 12:03 AM
dleg.. i'll never learn it.
aand btwists are so fuckin inconsistent i'm getting annoyed.. 1 session i have it and on the next one it's gone again. :|
corks took me, a, long, time.

corks.
there's no easy way to learn them!
one of the most satisfying things to eventually get though

with every move i've learned it would take weeks/months to land then i would get them consistently but suddenly lose them for a few weeks. worst feeling in the world =(
i find it easier now to learn tricks tho then when 1st starting out.
aerials sucked for me too, 4 months of.... "fuck why cant i aerial jacob" dont put your hand down. "hell its not easy"
My first one was literally due to me zoning out mid trick and i reached for the ground and my hip stopped me from touching the ground

cheat 9 for me about 3 months on and off, mainly because i get frustrated and have to stop drilling when i constantly fail haha, but im starting to level up and they are more consistent

pop 1080 jackknife. i had it for about two sessions. then i could only pop nine swipe. then i could only pop 1080. now i can only pop 1080.

May-13-09, 08:48 AM
Btwist. I can do something that can be called a btwist and I can actually hyper that as well but it looks like crap. On a few occasion I've done one that actually looks good, but I just can't get that right leg to come up, so mostly they keep looking ugly. I still haven't really done a 'real' one in my eyes.

it's pretty easy to get any trick but to get it to where you want it to be is the most difficult.
For example I did my first raiz a few months into tricking but I never got it half way decent looking until recently...And I still don't like it (2 years later)
Same with cork....anyone can cork but to get it high and nice enough to where you can cork round, hyper, swing thru, or pop out of it...that takes a lot of work and dedication (perfect example: AUS's Carney...his corks have gotten crazy lately!)

well a ctually i have to admit it that my backtuck took me 3 months to learn and still not consistant(i dont fell like to do it on grass :X ) tough i am digging the aeiel quite nice right now but need to improve
ive landed corks before but then i lost them and for like a year i aint been able to j step cork

May-13-09, 09:30 AM
lol corks only took me just a few sessions. as soon as i thought of it as a btwist from a diffrent take off they were easy. ive only landed one stright gainer tho. and iv been tricking 4 about three years.

Well, since I'm bored, I think I'm gonna go over some of the tricks I took pretty damn long to learn.
Started tricking (or trying to trick anyway): 2003; I don't consider my conditioning to have been relatively tricking-ready until about last year, though.
540 - about 3 months, even though I had been doing tornado kicks since I was 8
Southpaw aerial - also about 3 months
Southpaw b-twist - a year, maybe more?
The reason I did aerial and b-twist southpaw first was because I was inclined towards jumping with my right leg; hence my orthodox 540 and southpaw aerial/btwist.
Backflip - started in 2004, and I'm only starting to do it right this year
Orthodox aerial and b-twist - Aerials took me most of 2006, and I'm only starting to get b-twists down now.
Slant gainer - 1 year
Corkscrew - I've been trying since 2006
Double Leg - Trying since 2006; landed a bunch, very inconsistent
Raiz - 2 years; weird because sideswipe just took me one day when I sprinted into a 540
c720 - 2 years; weird because I started landing some jacknives before I managed to do one

axe aerial is such a bitch for me, and cork swings took a good year worth of training, and as for dubs, i havent started training them yet, i got all my hypers down, but i only train on grass right now so im kinda timid when it comes to them,

Aerial, It took fucken 2 years to get a crappy aerial.

Cork- 7 months and still going.
gee, just 7 months? thats like.. nothing compared to a ton of guys I know..
shut the fuck up and practice harder then....
the easiest trick I've done is doublefull since I learned it during one session, others have took from 6 months to over 2 years (and I still can't do them, like c7 and backflip)
When I have a trick that I'm frustrated with or I simply don't understand I usually just don't practice it or I attempt it once in a blue moon (Raiz). The move that I actually drilled and couldn't land was the aerial or back-tuck.

Dleg, but that's my fault for not practicing them.
Aerial. 8 months and counting. I think its time for some gymnastic coaching. Its vertical and all, it just fails. And no, I don't have any device for video or even photo recording.

Corks and aerials ironicly.

Your corks are beautiful lately
I struggled to learn cartfulls...It took me 2 years to learn them, but ever since then, i've progressed and now i can chuck hyperfulls on a whim.

Aerials really? I seam to remember it taking like two months of psuedo practice back when i was in gymnastics (8-9 years ago). Tried one like a week into tricking landed it the first time.
Anywho, gflash. Been trying them for almost as long as I've been seriously tricking. had them a couple of times but always lost them. I was super close on saturday, then I bruised my heel...
lol bruised it on a scoot backflip of all tricks i was there, it was in front of my class

been trying j-step corks for a long time. i can only cork from a TD raiz and i hate td raiz. FML.

THIS.
jstep corks are starting to piss me off, i can scoot cork absolutely fine
How can you possibly get enough height to cork? I have seen scoot double cork, but those guys have anti gravity cheats. Whenever I try to scoot gflash or anything I end up being extremely low, but my j-step gflashes are fairly high.

You should count sessions, not time. I get any move I work on in about 3-4 sessions, 1 session/ week. It's not that bad guys.
Raiz, almost 4 years and its still shitty. Doublecork, I have been awesomely close for about 2 years and still no land.

Touchdown Double Aerial Twist [TDDAT]
Out of all the moves I've ever landed, it's taken me the longest to land this twice. I think I need more upperbody strength training [which I am getting], because it's a huge strain on my right shoulder.

Double b-twist, I've been trying it for a year now but I still can't do it haha. I've been doing 540s since summer 07, and I just got it completely consistent and good a month ago! Also ironically enough, aerials have been extremely hard for me, it took me a year to get it and since then I've been having so much trouble with aerials and aerial variations, argh it's just annoying. D-legs have been really really hard for me to learn too, but I got them some time ago and now they're pretty easy for me!
Other than being horribly inconsistant with my btwists, (I can land them easily, they just look different every time) I have so much trouble doing hyper feilongs.

May-14-09, 08:47 AM
My incapability to land a btwist will be the death of Andy who has spent the best part of a year trying to teach it me. I've sinced abandoned it and turned to kicks since I seem to be more comfortable with them.

probably either P900 double or btwist..
p9 doubles I got into this habit of kicking 90* off target....took around a month to fix after drilling 720 doubles, in addition to the 3-4 months it took learning it initially...
Btwists....the first time I tried it I did like the perfect one, all horizontal with a spotted landing and upright chest....after watching some tutorials I fucked up the technique though and now I can only do wannabe slanted btwists
EDIT:It took me a year to get ONE flare

May-14-09, 11:14 PM
I had my double full before my aerial. And that isn't to say I didn't try hard on my aerial, I worked on it CONSTANTLY for 3 years until I finally started landing them on both sides the same day. I have worked for my front aerial continuously for almost 8 years now, and it is not getting more consistent.
Btwist and 540 gave me so much pain, prolly a year on each. I still don't think my btwist works very well still.
Touchdown raiz is AGONY. I can alwways s/t the first one I try perfectly, but I won't get anything from the rest of my TDraizes that day. Fucking hate TD raizs.

ShahrozS: same here man flares are my fuckin weakness
i've been trying to link multiple flares for years now and i just faillll at them. i can still put one in a combo here and there though.
also i fucking hate double b twists...still haven't landed it after an eternity of attempts and injuries
corks. they are my enemy move.

May-18-09, 04:28 PM
b-twists..nearly a year
and so you know, in my picture i didn't land it lol
I have no idea why aerials are so hard for people... I got them after about 3 sessions of relaxed jamming.
Get a REALLY good, fast, powerful one handed cartwheel. Make sure you're kicking that back leg up like you're trying to kick the fucking sun and FORCE YOURSELF NOT TO PUT YOUR HANDS DOWN!! It's just like hypertwists, force yourself to land on the other foot. Like 540's. Force yourself to land on your kicking/take off leg.
Complete and utter disregard for personal safety is the key.
Oh and as far as my trick that took me the longest... Backsaults... Took about a year & they're still terrible. B-Twists took a long time to get too but once you understand how to twist they are so incredibly easy its a joke.
