View Full Version : Gym ball in sand?
In many videos, ive seen people using something that looks like a swiss (gym) ball burried in sand at the beach. Is that a gym ball or something else?

Not always, some people burry an exercise ball(fitball) i believe.
Americans pronounce buoy so wierd, like "boo-ee" \o/

That's how it is pronounced...
People here are still too lazy so they say 'boy'
GYM BALL FTW

The guys in Spain use a buoy. All other ones I've seen have been exercise balls as far as I know.

I seriously thought you meant boy as a joke. I guess buoy could seem like "boo-oy", but boy seems a bit wacky.
The actual pronunciation seems a bit French since the "oy" sounds like "oi" in "oi oi" (assuming I'm even spelling it right to begin with). English is just a weird language with all these random connections to other languages. As for the main topic, I've wondered this myself, but never bothered to check.

It was cool. We all used it at devon 08. It feels heavy duty, I think if we used an exercise ball I'd be scared that it would pop.
I'm going to try it with a baby too!
get some layex spray and coat the baby in it that way you dont slip on its silky smooth skin
hmmm next time i'm at the beach i will have to try getting a buoy, dont worry about fitness balls poppin if you get a good quality one they have no chance of doing so

yeah I supposed that they are designed to take a persons weight.
Could you imaging doing it with one of those massive zorb balls! Or maybe a tennis ball!
I so gotta try this!
How much are these excersise balls?
like £3 or something they are dead cheap

Like a bosu ball?

I've always wondered if that would work, but I think it would be hard to secure in sand. Maybe in some other environment?
It would move in the sand though if you dig the appropriate size hole on grass it would be amazing

we use this all the time. we use a fitball. costed $100. Greatest investment ever. we know it wont pop coz there is no way any of us could inflict 500 pounds of dynamic pressure to the ball. it doesnt move around in sand because when you dig the hole unlessthe dimensions of the hole are perfect there will be a slight air pocket. the sand will then form a seal around the ball level with the ground therefore creating a vacuum with that air pocket so it wont move. this also tends to make it rather difficult to remove from the sand afterwards tho

Bosu's would not work, they have a very small air release, so when you jump on them they go flat.
In Melbourne, we use a $5 fitball.
Don't pay a hundred dollars, and for the love of your god, where the hell do you find a buoy?
