Now, by looking at the thread title, you may think that I want to get a massive vertical. Sadly, that's not true. I have something close to it already.
What I need are exercises to make me jump higher... using my arms! Jumping from a handstand. I can't do handstand pushups yet though. I can do half of them, but if I go farther down than that half then I'll give and hit my head on the floor. (OW)
So, any recommendations on exercises to increase arm strength vertically?

Actually, reading the title, I imagined a 6 year old screaming it in response to "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Get the coordination with your legs right, kicking your legs at the right time as you push up would help a lot. Just practice bouncing around on your hands as well, and maybe just try to spend a lot more time on your hands, walking around etc. You could do things like presses explosively, making sure you don't use your legs, handstanding would probably serve a bit better though.

do "explosive" arm workouts? Like an explosive push up, where you're on the floor and you're basically doing a normal push up, except you bounce at the end of each push up. Or you can do burpees, but I'm not expert.

Plenty of these

Edit: Ooops I read it as "I need to learn to get more height on my jumps by using my arms"

For what you want... do these

Also just practice handstands all day! haha

Military presses and a ton of handstands. Learn how to do handstand pushups. I can't jump more than a couple of inches on my hands, and I can easily do 20 handstand pushups (against a wall, haha). If you can't even do one, you're not going to be able to jump.

Continue to do the partial range handstand ones, and also do the full range overhead presses with lighter weights.

The front raise is good since we tend to gravitate towards using the ant delt for overhead presses anyway (even though we always want to build the medial since iti s prettier) and that motion is, my guess, good for generating rotation over your centre for backflips or something. Someone in the know comment on that?

Haven't been here in a while and now I looked through this.
You guys understand that pushups and handstand pushups work different muscles, right?
But thanks for the tips :p

Sorry for the double post.
I think you're right on the rotation thing ashtar. Makes sense if you use your arms to jump.

actually if you want to get your handstand jumps higher, i think you should work on your leg's kicking technique, since 90% of the jumping power comes from your legs. assuming you are talking about handhops.

You guys understand that pushups and handstand pushups work different muscles, right? But thanks for the tips :pNo, I don't understand this. They work the same muscles, just with different emphasis. More shoulders+traps, less chest, basically. Triceps get more work since there's more weight on them, but that's just compared to an unweighted pushup. There might be some difference in the recruitment of the long head of the triceps based on the angle, meh.

Sucking back an old thread.
I can do HSPU now. (I didn't even have to train it!) I just went about my normal ways and it seems now I can do them.

So your dreams of growing up to be a rocket ship have finally come to fruition?

Actually yes. I don't know how I achieved it, but I like it. It's fun to try blocking with handstands.
