View Full Version : Size a factor?

Just wondering if size is a factor when it comes to tricking...?
I am like 6'3 and 190 lbs currently, and I find it pretty difficult to do even simpler tricks like backflips (when I could do them at a younger age).
Is it easier for shorter people to trick? Or any advice for taller people.
Advice/Comments ?

I don't think it has to do with height, but body type. For some reason I can trick alot better then my smaller friends because my legs are longer for my height. Its determined by your build. I'm like 5'11-6 ft and I do backflips fine, and so do the other tall guys at my gym.

I am tall. And my arms are super long. Like mutated. But long and big.

arms don't look freakishlly long to me. Maybe alittle longer then they should be, but that shouldnt hurt your tricking. If anything it should give you more torq on double legs and spinning kicks

You know you'd think so. I have long legs too. But all of these things seem to be hindering my tricking.

how long have you been tricking?

Not very long.
yes, technically shorter people have advantage in gymnastics and consequently, in tricking. Lower center of gravity helps balance as well as doing air-borne moves.
But the advantage doesn't seem to make alot of significance in tricking. Logan is tall yet is still known well for his high level of tricks.

balance. I think thats what we lack if there is something. Then again im 6 ft, but my frame is wider then most so it balances out for me naturally. Seriouslly dude the longer you trick the higher and easier it gets.

although it may make a difference if a tall and short person were both taught exacly the same (like gymnasts), it doesnt really effect the average tricker. because your teaching yourself, the difference in your ability to teach yourself tricks is more important than size, so if your better at that/more intellegent than a shorter person you could still easily be way better at tricking.
ok that doesnt make much sense.

I guess that's true. I need to find somewhere else to practice other than my backyard.
My grass hurts.

Ok, the main problem for tall people is that they have to exert a lot of torque to get their limbs around. To minimize the twisting force needed, you'll want whatever you are rotating to be as close to the axis of rotation as possible. That means really tight body and twists and really high close to your face kicks on stuff like 540s (although that'll obviously require a lot of flexibility). Now for stuff like a layout, you're just kind of out of luck, but trust me you can still generate enough power to do it. Note that what I said applies to everyone, but if you think your size is giving you problems that these things might be even more pertinent.

uh ok i have ton of advice acutally.... long legs help you fool just u need some extra flexability to work on =D im just like you but my arms a bit less muscular and a bit longer, i have longer legs and shorter hair lol heres what yyou do try and work on like all 3 splits a bit every day and you get better seriously it plays huge roll in tricking like aerials, 540s it does help imo ill post video of how this type of body hinders your tricking in a few mins.... its to cold to trick outside and so im in my house aerialing without the ability to stretch my legs out at all...

My long legs and arms have always helped me in sports. When I was active in martial arts I had to spar against older kids as well.
I was a skinny thing back then though. I was very quick. Bwha.
Grasshopper you got AIM or MSN or anything?
A lot quicker than typing constantly back and forth here.

Long legs also means more power dude.
ok i was wondering along the size thing does the size of the spotter you have make any difference because the spotter i was meant to have is if anything bigger than me if not the same and wasn't too sure if he would be able to spot me. so does the size of the spotter make a huge difference?

not really. a spotter should be about the same size or bigger than the dude trying to learn the trick.
back to topic. as a tall trickster, the only problem i've had with height is i can't trick inside. i get too close to the ceiling for comfort and one bailed backflip has taught me the the sky is the best ceiling for me.
