When I had to do pushups at school in gym class, I made about 30 pushups, but when I try to do pushups at home when I'm trainig, I do barely 10 :eh:

Why is it like this?

My guess is that you most likley were warmed up when you did the thirty and when you tried at home you just kind of went and did some pushups. being warmed up helps so much.

so do a few stretches, then do soem pushups, then do a few more stretches or other activities and then you should be ready to do 30 again.

Psychologically we perfom better in front of others. I forget what is exactly called, because I changed my major hah(used to be psychology).

For the longest time, I could never do more than 50 pushups. I was doing pushups every day, and for some reason, I could never make it past that arbitrary number.

A lot of it is psychological, but a lot of it is how you train too. Once I stopped doing pushups every day and started giving my muscles a rest, I started being able to do more. When I started resistance training, I found that I could do even more pushups even though I hardly ever did them at all.

Your chest is invovled too. I remember I told that to one of my classmates and she yelled, "Boob Muscles? What the FUCK?" I used to be able to do like..60 of 'em. Now, I can't. Meh.

I do 80pushups every day (in sets of 10)

I notice if I give myself a day or two for resting i can pull out 15-20pushup for the first set.

When I first started doing pushups (this year) i could only do 2 without stopping, now its 10 (and i'm still hoping to increase that by a lot)

Well, I can do around 30-40, maybe 50 if I rest in a set, but I went from being able to do none to 5, to 10, straight to 20, then to 30, etc. But all I did was do pushups, After I could get 5, I got exhilirated and just kept doing them. Good luck with it, hope you get a load of 'em soon.

Its just these scrawny arms of mine. I mean yeah- they still have muscle,
but they are weak as crap.
Like the time i practically shatted my whole arm while punching
this asshole in the face. T_T

I dunno if it's true, but curling weights seemed to help me with push ups, Max I've done is 55 push ups in 2 mins, seems like the weights helped me alot

congratulations. that is the minimum standard for the united states navy. ;) i suggest you start resistance. but then again..pushups make pushups...benching makes benching. some people just arent good at them.

as for the 2 minute rule..115 straight:wink:

I can do about 70 pushups in a set.

Stretches? Dynamic?

I think a more likely explanation was that you're just more pressured to do it in front of friends and it's easy to be lazy at home. Or, he did them slower at home so it look more endurance.

Or... he just did 30 at school and hadn't recovered from them when he tried to do the 10? *shrug* Or bad form to impress like some guy said (not necessarily intentional, if you're thinking about girls watching you, you're not focusing on form).

Why's it even matter?

Ive never actually counted my max and I've been doing them for a year. I'll have to try that sometime. But every other day I do
