View Full Version : Useful gloves

I have been thinking, feet are probably tougher than hands since they tend to bear more weight and stuff like that. Yet we more commonly wear socks or shoes on them. We don't often wear gloves unless it's cold or maybe some people do while doing dishes or gardening perhaps.
Some people also wear it for weightlifting, or when mandated for boxing, or sometimes in stuff like baseball or even bowling apparently.
But what about for everyday usage? Sort of like Michael Jackson, except not all uselessly/dangerously jewel-studded, but a sort of utilitarian thing?
Maybe that would be good for the health of hands? Obviously they should be able to breathe and get rid of sweat, but gloves would block some sunlight, prevent abrasions, work grip muscles tighter since they resist movement and make grips thicker.
In particular, I am wondering if they are one way to change a lifestyle? You instinctively don't want to eat food while wearing gloves because you lose tactile sense and it would be weird and you wouldn't want to get food on them. On the other hand, pouring and drinking water while wearing gloves is good. Furthermore, if you have a habit of nail-biting or something, they protect you from that, and instead you can replace it with a habit of say, just resting your chin on your knuckles or something. When you press down that is a good focusing mechanism.

Yes, Ashtar. I really think you're onto something here.
Perhaps if you wore gloves you might be less inclined to type every thought that pops into your head.

Its funny how no one does this and everyones hands are fine.

You wear shoes because the environment your feet have to handle is far tougher and dirtier and you have less co ordination and sight to avoid things that you shouldn't step on, unlike your hands where you can control what you want to touch and the way you do it.
Yes that does sound stupid but so does your original post trying to compare the two things.

Chances are you would have less injuries if you roamed about a grass land barefoot all day, however, out of necessity we wear footwear. The hands do not need this kind of protection because they are not in contact with the environment for locomotion. I know you, Ashtar, will probably mention an example of one human that uses their hands for transportation but I don't give a shit and I will never visit this thread again because I hate you.

Then when you are tired you don't want to eat yourself.
MORE/LESS INCLINATION MASTURBATIONThis won't help I don't use my hands for that.

Anyway yeah, I don't live in a grassland, I live around a bunch of sharp hard corners I stub my toe on and randomly swing my fingers into without looking.

I thought that it's healthier without shoes anyway? Apparently shoes f*ck up the way we walk and it isn't good. Besides like everyone said feet are worn down a lot more than hands and our hands voluntary go where we want them to go. It's easy for us to accidentally step on a nail (done it a couple of times ¬.¬).

I think we've adapted to wearing shoes since we wear them all the time - we've become accustomed to that extra support shoes give us on a daily basis .
Plus we walk on a mess load of hard surfaces each day so wearing shoes is a good thing .

Hands do not only control the vast majority of our motor manipulation, but they are also the body's focal point of pain, pressure, temperature, crude and fine touch, proprioception, and vibration sensory reception, as well as many defensive reflexes (via the fasiculus cuneatus and the spinothalamic tract), as a vast proportion of sensory receptors from the sensory cortex of the brain are devoted to the hands, and especially the index finger. Our hands are extremely important for sensory detection for the world around us.
Therefore, we don't wear gloves all the time, because, as human beings, we use our hands to sense and interact with our environment on a sensory level. You'd be doing a disservice to yourself if you impaired that.

Actually, I've taken college graduate level courses on neuro-anatomy, neuromechanics of the upper and lower body, anatomy and physiology, and neuroplasticisty.
Whoever said an Occupational Therapy major with a neurological focus isn't your friend? ;)

Like I wondered, if I had to sense stuff through a barrier if it would mean more sensitivity? Also it's a means of avoiding injury (accidental and self-induced) so it would be good for health in that way.

What the fuck is the point of wearing gloves all day Ashtar? You have yet to post a valid reason.

Spongebob: OK, and we can wear gloves on our feet, and hats on our captains quarters too!

@ ashtar: pretty sure in the states, the term 'college' is synonymous with the way we use 'university' here in canada. 'community college' is probably what 'college' is like to us in the states

Yes, that's what I meant. In following your terms, the courses I've taken and still am taking are university level courses (400-700 level courses) about the subjects I listed.
Certainly not community college/college, haha. The highest they really go is the basic uni-level biology courses.

A lot of universities have several 'colleges' within them too, like the 'college of engineering' and they all combine to a be a university? I like that flexibility, because it allows you to call yourself whatever you feel like at the moment.
