I just received a confirmed diagnosis for Wilson's Disease (http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/wilson/) last night after vigorous hepatic/occular/neurologic testing, all beginning from an innocent metabolic panel for school.

Wilson's Disease is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder in which the body cannot dispose of copper, so it builds up in the liver, kidneys, eyes, and brain. I have noted build ups in my liver and brain, and I will be getting a liver biopsy done on monday to determine if I need a liver transplant.

Needless to say, from here on out, I cannot eat any food or drink anything with any trace copper. Things ranging from seafood, to chocolate, to dried fruits, various meats, vegetables, and beans are completely off limits for the rest of my life.

I'm in shock. I have no idea what to think at all.
