Hello. I'm Brian from Korea. Please, understand my English. =)
I want to ask you guys about tricking black belt system. Now, Many people wants to train and learn tricks in Korea. And there are many teams too.
One of teams try to made their own program and association. It's good. But, they made blackbelt system. =P You can get 1st black belt if you can do some tricks(As example, 540 Hook, Double Legs...) and combos(likes Hook-Tornado kick-Aerial) in my country. Maybe, Juji can get at least 3rd belt. =)
Well, Do you know who made and confirm about this in world before? And how is about your thinking about this?
Thanks. =)

You can get a blackbelt in any martial art if you pay them $1000 and print out a pretty certificate.

wait is this part of a regular martial arts system or purely for tricks? we have tricks in our curriculum as part of the martial arts system such as c-720,aerials,butterflys,raiz.
I'm a 9th degree in Trickbusting lololololol
I think that is a horrible idea.
I agree, and this is why:
Though inspired by martial art techniques and movements, Tricking is not a "martial art system". At best...it can be viewed as a supplementary exercise to build agility, speed, and versatility; but not as a curriculum designed to improve one's combative potential.
Therefore, I believe that having a "belt system" for something like this is a little over the top. I think it would make a mockery of existing martial art styles that have been around for 100+ years and are dedicated to producing the most efficient ways to settle a conflict. However, I do believe that having Tricking experience would be a virtue for a martial artist, so I would develope some sort of "acheivement stripe" [stripes on the left side of the belt that denote special/non-standard training], and use that to recognize those who have completed "whatever".

I think Many team has their own training programs. even you guys too, like tutorials. Black belt system is good for trainee to give them a goal and passion. But, without MONEY~!!!!
With money, It can be like TKD in my country. You can get 1st TKD black belt so easily, even you don't know how to kick, even forms too. Just you need money. I have all 5th martial arts black belts, But I don't be pride about that. if possible I want to refund those. =)
I respect you guys after I train tricking. It's more harder and fearer than I trained martial arts before. I will choose backflip more than 1st TKD black belts.
The association in Korea says the black belt is for more systematic education. But I think it for money. If they don't want money. I respect them.

a blackbelt is more about what u put into them than what u were given. just cuz u had a shit experience at a martial arts school...ur a black belt forever...now what are u gonna do about it...be ashamed u went to a shit school or take what u know and take it to the next level.
trickz is not a system. its a concept, a mentality, and for me and some others a lifestyle. i believe making tricking into a quasi martial arts is a horrible idea. lol...it can be included in a martial arts system but not seperate from one...if ur doing a belt system.

as already said, it would probably come off as disrespectful for someone to try and use that system. as an alternative, why doesnt everyone just use a standard level system like gymnastics? or even the class system used in todays tricking bibles?

haha i totally thought he meant he had a bunch of 5th degrees not 5 black belts.
wait...kickboxing has belts?
I personally don't like the idea of belts in any martial art. It's like the belt runs their martial-arts world. It's not about rank, it's about your skill level to yourself. Nobody else needs to know how good you are unless you are teaching them.
My biggest pet peeve is when I see intructers that "claim" to be high degree black belts, and then I look at the techniques they are teaching their students and it's either completely wrong or they can barely perform themselves.

it would be a horrible idea. It would destroy some of the point behind tricking.

How about we don't use a grading system, since it's clearly been demonstrated (ala K9 and silly korean belt system) that tricking is too open/ freeform for any single tricker's skill level be defined by anything more specific than "X tricker is good" or "X tricker is REALLY good".
Tricking isn't taught in any kind of formal system, so I dont think it should be represented by one. Instead of faffing around with a bunch of asshole grades I think we should just be content with being able to say "this tricker can do X Y and Z tricks, but not A or B (but that's okay since they still kick ass)"

Where i used to do kyokushin you didnt even pay for a black belt, you had to earn it from about 5 years of blood sweat and tears

ohhhhhh sorry i completely got the wrong idea about your first post, i thought you were for the "black belt system"
well i am not aware of any kind of level system apart from towells K9 system haha
every one tricks at different levels.
creating a levelling system would just cause more arguements between kicks/twists/flips based trickers.

There is no widely accepted ranking system of any kind for Tricking in most of the world.

When you said "I have blackbelts in all martial arts" it could mean that you have any number of such belts because the number of martial arts that exist in the world is huge and unknown.

Have you read the tricking bible yet?
It is not necessarily a ranking system, but it does rank the tricks.
Not everyone agrees with it, but it can be very helpful at times.

Rather 3 black belts. Usually people don't add each degree together when saying how many black belts they have. I'm guessing you are so used to ranking systems that you expected tricking to have it. Being an underground sport, it isn't being milked for money yet (hopefully never in that sense, but we don't know the future). The closest we come to ranking people is by what they can do visually and picking our favorites. However, everyone has their own favorites so each person will have different ranks in the eyes of others. This might be especially hard to understand for someone whose first language isn't English so I'll try to clarify further if you want.

Thanks, Inkrepid. I read the tricking bible. =) I respect his tries. Cause, people don't need to pay to learn that and He doesn't want to collect money for it too. I want to know who made a black belt system before. How dare Korean association can make black belt system? Did they make tricking? No. But, they made black belt and sell it. That why I want to blame it.

Thanks, Megabuster. I know it's very hard to make a rank which it understood to everyone. Maybe some people don't agree sesshoumaru's tricking bible. Even me too. =P I think tricking came from martial arts. But tricking isn't a martial arts. I don't think tricking need to follow martial arts system. Especially, black belts system. If someone wants to prove their tricks, they can make it when just shooting it and upload it to youtube something. It dosen't need money, and more correct than black belt.
And, I can say "I have 3 black belts."? =)

Hey, It's Korea. =) If you aren't Korean, Your Korean is good. I can understand everything!! I'm in Sung-Nam city(it's close from Seoul). Let me know if you come to my country.
I think Tricking will be like B-boying. There will be no black belt and ranking, but only Team and their own training style. The Korean association will fail In my opinion.

You can say you have 3 black belts and people will understand it easily. I tend to not mention degrees because sometimes it feels like degrees take some of the respect away from the belts. Tricking did stem from martial arts, but it seems to be moving in another direction. As you said, it does appear to be developing like b-boying. Funny enough there's another topic on this forum about how a structured tricking battle should look like and b-boy style is one of the choices. Get out and trick whenever you feel like it. If you ever tire out, just rest for a bit, maybe watch some videos, and stay active. Hope you have a nice time on here. =)
