hey guys first time poster...I came accross this site ages ago then got into tricking.....practiced for about 2 days, learned how to do a backspring then gave up the first time i seriously crashed. Now i really want to get into tricking....and my problem is my backflip. You're all probably sick of bf problems but i would really apreciate some feedback.....I can do everything fine up untill the tuck, i've recorded myself and it looks like i've got the start right but as soon as i start the tuck i fall like a sack of shit, there was one time when I recorded myself and I looked the jujimufu in this pic http://www.trickstutorials.com/images/t_bflip8.jpg(only I was fully tucked.....same sorta height) then i just literally fell straight down....and on laminate flooring it hurts like a bitch...anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

A vid would help, really. It could be that you're not tucking hard enough, or long enough, or tucking at the wrong time. If you have the strength to execute a trick, but still can't, try varying something, or else you'll just be drilling a bad technique (which takes a longer time to get rid of than to just find the right one for you; in general, that is).
Good Luck Training!! Until we meet again...

Jump higher, tuck harder and commit to the move damnit.
Try using grass too.

When you said that you fell you didnt specify what you fell on.
If your tucking you body into your legs then your going to kill all of your backward rotation and just land on your back or head. Make sure that you are tucking you legs towards your chest and not just curling your chest down. You should be keeping your body mostly straight.
If your flip looks ok untill the tuck your arms are most likley doing what they should be. But make sure that when you go into the tuck your not just kind of doing whatever with your arms, tuck those in too, they help you rotate a lot.
Watch Juji's "finally back" video and notice what happens in the first few tries when he dosnt use his arms a whole lot. it just dosnt carry through, that might help to.
I find its good to watch videos of people doing it right, study that, then watch soem videos of people doing it wrong, it helps to find problems that you might experience.
Hope ive helped your flip.

I can see that you're untucking prematurely. This will obivously make you underrotate. Also your center of gravity in this clip is in your waist. You should be making this a lot higher up. When trying to flip, lift your hips up, it sounds strange but it's not difficult. When at the tip of the jump when you tuck, also push your lower body up as well, this will raise your center of gravity allowing you to gain more height in this move. (You're only as high as your hips)

i know exactly what you are doing wrong. its a common problem to bring chest to knees. in the tuck you should be leaning backward whilst bringing knees to chest hard do not bring your chest to knees!

Quoted for truth. Yes, don't lean with your chest on your knees, because you will rotate very slowly. Bring your knees to chest, and you will rotate fast.

I love it when you fall down looking really bad and don't even take a breath do try it again :D
I envy your technique. My problem is going backwards, but you don't do that. That's a good thing.
You could try leaning back when you've reached the highest point of your jump. Then bring the knees up, and tuck in really tight.
The only bad thing that can happen on a mattress is you falling on your neck. Even falling on your face doesn't hurt. If you feel that you're about to fall on your neck, tuck in really tight. If you feel nothing will help, tilt your head back and land on your face. That way you'll save your neck from overextending.

if i'm leaning back though isn't that jumping backwards?...or will my legs just throw my body back?

First you jump, then you lean back. If you lean back whilst in the air, you just rotate on an axis.

ah you see, i've been trying my hardest not to move myself back at all....I just assumed that a combo of legs and arms spins you around. Anyone got any tips for the leaning back?
Edit: Just thought i'd add the number of times i've crashed trying to do this wanker of a move is very nearly in the hundreds....will defintely be in hundreds tomorow as I have a whole day off from college

I can't actually do backflips for the fear, but I've studied them for a LONG time and watched every tutorial possible, I know the physics required etc.
When you lean back in the air, it won't move you back. Try pushing your hips over your head when you go back instead of leaning your chest down.
Leaning forwards will give you forwards momentum, so essentially what you are doing when you are tucking is cancelling out the back momentum and underrotating. If you lean back and try push your hips round, they both will go in your favour, and providing you get enough height, should ensure you get past your head.

If you're having a bad day, don't keep trying. Move on to another move and come back to it later. Crashing reinforces bad technique and, in some cases, fear of commitment.
