damn dude, if ur willin to pay 1000 bucks for it then you got a good range. you can get very good hd cameras for 200 bucks.

mainly, you are just looking for definition, and maybe sound quality. 1080/720 is what your looking for. also, look for image stableization. thats so if you shake the camera a little bit, it will fix it for you. so its really good for panning shots and other weird camera effects without a tripod.

now for sound quality. it doesnt really matter too much, because usually during samplers you just mute the audio or cover it with music anyway. but if you are going to talk in the vids then you dont want wind blowing in the background. look for white noise filters, and uni-directial microphones.

so thats all the help i can give you, sorry i dont have any specific brands for you, but as long as you get the specs i mentioned above, you should get a very decent camera. l8

thanks,
that narrows it down a good bit

edit:
my current range is around 750, but i dont want to shell out 700$ and have it not be good enough, so then i'd have to pay ANOTHER 900 for something better.

i was looking at the hg 20 but i really dont know much about it

DO NOT GET A CAMERA THAT RECORDS TO MP4 or MPEG 4 (if you currently use pc). TRUST ME ITS A PAIN.

Don't bother with the canon HV40, if you're going to go up that price range I suggest the Canon HS F100.

I suggest the HV30 :good: the 30p footage is great, you get no ghosting or interlacing problems from progressive footage - I get silly ghosting from my HV20 when I film in 50i, and that sucks
