Front Aerial

can anyone give me pointers on this trick, i find it quite hard, i have been trying it, i know how it looks but i cant seem to get it.......also any videos would help too,

Just make sure that you get the 3 most important factors for a nice aerial and push them as much as you can:

1/ Pumping the first leg for a decent take off
2/ Torquing those shoulders far as you can
3/ Kicking the landing leg high and hard.

I find the aerial easier to them in that order too.


EDIT(I never double post): Torquing your shoulders is essential in the front aerial to get your legs to travel the distance, just make sure you don't forget the other factors while concentrating on this (D'oh!)

A front aerial=webster. There's no tutorial or video for that on the website moozix. I suggest you learn to aerial and tuck half way through - right when your back arm goes up and hits it's high point you jump and tuck. Once you can do that well, do the same thing but tuck forward and throw your leg back like you would in an axe to aerial. It's definitely more dangerous than an aerial so I don't suggest you try it until you get an aerial, tucked aerial, and gymnast (or axe to aerial) down.

Front aerials are harder than websters. You need a nice very clean gymnasty front handspring. After that its a matter of heel drive and arching hard.

You're referring to an untucked webster. As far as I'm concerned you can do them tucked or untucked, with the definition for a webster simply being a front flip taken off from one foot. I really don't care about terminology though, distinguishing a front aerial from a webster in terms of a tuck makes sense. You're right about the front handspring, you can't expect to do it untucked unless it's solid - strong heel drive, arch, jump.

Well, a lot of people do websters as half-sideways takeoff things, then turn forwards. A true front aerial starts and stays straight forward. Then again I'm convinced websters originated because people were too lazy to do "real" front aerials, haha. I still think they look cool though, so whatever. Make sure you push up very hard with your base leg, drive your heel over you HARD, arch your back and don't look for the ground on landing. Let your foot land, then stand up. Throw your arms down and behind you hard as well. Do it from a runup to start wiiiiiithhh. Yeeah.

Every front aerial topic everyone brings up things like it's just a webster, it's hardly even alike.. anything with aerial in it means a move that normally uses hands, but you don't use your hands. A front aerial is a front walkover without your hands touching the ground. You must drive your back heel hard, and bring you head down like if you were doing a walkover. Then arch your back as your feet come over, and just like a normal FHS look at the ground as long as possible

so as far as i know, a tricksterstyle webster=webster, a gymnastic style fhs without hands with bent back is front aerial.

and sideway takeoff which turns forward... i think it's like.. aerial walkover or something

to do front aerial (or free walkover -UK) you need a brutal amount of flexibility in your back and legs. a strong gymnastics bridge, like this:

and strong splits.

without writing out a full tutorial, basically you need to have strong forward walkovers and eventually attempt to speed these up and concentrate more on what you are doing with your legs.

this isn't a free handspring, it is a free walkover.

to do this well i recommend you study some videos of gymnasts doing the skill and check the shape. a free walkover is nothing at all like a webster in my opinion. this is one of the most graceful moves of the basics of artistic gymnastics, yet you cannot simply hope to learn technique and get it- you need a highly conditioned body to do this well/correctly.
