I've been poppin' for 4 years. For those of you who've never heard of it, it's the flexing/tensing of the muscles (arms, chest, neck, and legs mostly - a few use their abs too) to the beat. I'm not sure if it has any benefits to muscle strength, but it does increase endurance.

Dimestopping is when you just move your arms/legs or body around without tensing the muscles to get a true popping effect.

i think popping is way cooler than bboying, it's a lot harder to get really good at. also, you can do it anywhere: popping while you are making a sandwich is particularly hardcore.

Sounds cool.
I've got to check out this popping thing..
But im guessing you must be flexible and actually have some
knowledge of break-dancing? 0_o

Just sudden sharp stops in movement. Does not require flexing or tensing. It is the basis of the robot.

Here's some clips of me:

Hard to see actual pops tho with clothes on and my cam isn't that sharp.

Here's a clip of a Korean group:

First little part is locking by Originality crew. Hard to get a clip of true popping because we (poppers) mix in other styles such as boogaloo, waving, tutting, snaking, etc.

Not really, popping is known on bboying forums as "Electric Boogaloo", I'm pretty sure. It is also its own individual style, some people call it Popnlock or Poppin' and Lockin'. Its just popping, and its just locking. Two seperate dances. I like Bboying, Popping and Tricking as my main three practices. Bboying I've been in since November, Tricking since December, Popping since January. So if I get pissed at one thing (windmills in bboying) I move on to, say, Butterfly twists in tricking, and so on so forth. I think its awesome myself. You don't need a large floor of lino to pop. Not that you need it with bboying, either, it just makes it hella easier. Flexibility? I don't really think so...I'd love to help you out more, but some things are really hard to explain with words in bbogin/popping, because in bboying, youmove your bodyu in very obscure ways, in popping you tense muscles in...very obscure ways haha. Here, check out these sites for basic info on bboying, I'll look for popping sites later.

www.bboy.org Its a good site for bboying. A little messy to me, though.
www.bboyzone.com Like bboy.org, but IMO, better, its smaller though. Its just more organized.

Aha nice.
Yeah, I have some friends who are b-boys/girls and they can do some
pretty sick-looking things. I just don't think I'm 'qualified' to do it. T_T
I'm guessing that It would help out your style in tricking aswell.
So...You must be very good. T_T

Most of it is actually not as hard to do as it looks. yes, airflares are hard as fucking shit, but the windmills aren't THAT hard, and they look real sick if you can do 'em fast. Don't get me wrong, they will be hard, but hey, its good if you can get them fast. Even better if you're a fast learner.

Bboys/Bgirls = Those that know foundation, history, and full undertanding of the dance. Covering all grounds: Toprocks, Uprocks, Downrocks, Freezes, Power. A real bbiy/bgirl wouldn't even need any power.

Breakdancer = Those who only learn power, or a freeze. Some may be called posers.

I just really hate "bboys" who don't even have an entrance and they just go straight to power.

Breakdancers are people who just learn power and not footwork, do not know the history, and just use bboying to impress and not express. Not to say that you can't show off, but at least if you know what you're doing and resoect it, than you're a bboy. If you just do windmills for show-off reasons, you biz breakdancer. And true, real bboys and bgirls thrive on style and not power.

Steppin' is cool to me. One dance style I really dislike is Krumpin'...no structure whatsoever, but the so called "founders" of it claim it does.

yea at my school no one knows anything about bboying, but they still have breakdance circles n stuff. i think it's cool though because everyone just dances and very rarely does floorwork. it's good ol' fashioned fun!
