okay well today i went to a gymnastic place with some of my friends. When i was doing a standing back flip on the floor my back would start hurting after i landed. Like right in the middle of the lower section. I said okay that was wierd i waited a while and did another. And the same thing it hurt. I did this around 5-6 times when i got tired of it hurting. It went away after like 5-10 min but everytime i did it the pain came back. And now its been around an hour since ive done one and my back is hurting. Now about my backflip my friend has a clip of it. So he will post it here and you guys can see if its a back problem or if its just the way im doing my back flip. When i land i dont land straight up but i land with hands touching the ground a bit. This is my first day doing a back flip so i cant tell you that this nvr happened before. Also i do em standing and jumping on the trampoline without any problems. Thanks

As far as tips on the backflip, you open up way too early. Look at your arms, you just tap them against your knees and let go pretty soon after. Next time you try, try to overotate the move so you open out later.
Others give tips please, im sure i havent covered everything.
Oh btw, this was the only one i could get [the only one of my camera], and i know this is kinda bad compared to your others. Well try em at the park tommorow and do better ones so i can film it.

I havent tried a backtuck myself on the ground yet but I have learned the technique really well on a tramp, heh. I'll be trying Monday on the ground...ANYWAY!

You arent holding your tuck at all. Watch the video, you can hear yourself *smack* your legs and just let go. Also, you arent reaching for the sky. You are reaching and then bending your arms. Your body should go straight up, arms and all, and then you should lean back (use your arms to help with this) and TUCK, and HOLD IT. Wait till you spot your landing then open up.

Jump UP!
Reach for the SKY!
Lean back at the peak of your JUMP!
Yank your knees up and tuck HARD!
Spot your landing and when the timing is right, THEN OPEN UP!

Hope this helps, I'm still just a newb myself at tricking but I think my advice is sound!

thanks for the replies i'll try to fix the technique but can anyone find where i can hurt my back in the move cause thats my main concern. I wanna find where it causes my back to hurt so i can fix that so i can try them alot more often.

maybe it's lack of flexibility in your lower back. :eh: try doing bridges.

im not afraid of any part of the backflip. So its not fear or anything. I try to tuck too much hopefully to cancel out the not tucking enough thing.

It looks like you're going a meter back. Try to focus on something ahead of you, and think about your toes leaving the ground last.
Then, another thing, you want to tuck in tighter to spin faster. It looks to me as you could tuck quite a bit more. Don't think about just grabbing your knees, think about grabbing them and pulling them to your chest, hard. You want to be as small as you can be in the air. Small and tight.
That way you rotate very fast, which means your backflip will look sensational, since you're first going up (straight up, remember :)) and then just quickly tucking, and finally you find yourself high up in the air having plenty of time to land.

I don't know if all of that works, really, but I think it does. I've just done a couple of backflips myself last Friday, so I might not be the best help there is. I hope you'll land safe, though. It's a wonderful feeling once you land the flip.
