Okay, here's a broad daylight pic of both arms, since you wanted to see if my arms are proportional. It's hard to see anything though, as it's too bright, and I'm a pale motherfucker.

hehe, mine are as big as that but not that ripped
we should combine forces to make one super forearm

My arms are proportionally as such, I'm not sure about size-wise though (my upper arm might be smaller than yours)
Haha, you don't know how much I'd love to play guitar. Unfortunately it's pretty damn expensive and I'd probably be forced into lessons that teach you shit like "Mary had a Little Lamb".
i taught myself guitar, its not that hard, you just have to have a little commitment. i dont think my forearms are big from guitar though
likewise, my friend who is amazing at guitar and plays a 12 string does not have that powerful forearms
what does your left arm look like? I take it you play with your right.

Jan probably has better genetics than you. By better, I mean more geared towards putting on muscle.
Uh, I definately got this from playing the guitar, as I've never ever done any training for my lower arms.
My left arm looks pretty much the same. I'll try to take a picture of it.. Hard angle though, since I only have one source of light up here, and a roof which kinda stops me from... well... standing where I need to stand to get a picture of anything left-sided:P

You could have gotten those forearms from deadlifts, if you do them.

I deadlift, but I got "big" forearms before that.

mine arms are axactly like that, i never thought that it was guitar playin that made those two hyge rips across the forearm though, i just thought it was from handstands, well now i know

I don't know wether my biceps are very small or my forearms are big....because they measure the same when both are relaxed, and when both are contracted my bicep is like 1-2 inches bigger...proportionally they are probably as big as jan's...not that ripped tho
But I think both forearms and calves are more genetics....unless you work on them....then sky is the limit
But I have moderatly big ones, just like my dad, and most of his brothers...he used to do farmwork to, and that probably helps a bit...
My forearms haven't grown much because of my biceps who are so weak compared to them, so the body won't let you get so imbalanced, like popeye, I also think it happens the other way around, and on antagonists/agonists too
If you want big forearms, hit them with everything you got, from pure strength to 100rep+, but remember its strength is very dependent on tendons and ligaments, so it takes a while for them to adapt....I would use
endurance work on the begining, then alternate every week between the different kinds (strength, endurance, hypertrophy, failure), they can take some workload, so try to hit them at least 3 times a week, do curls (both ways),grippers, squeeze anything you can think of, do pinch grip work, levering, rotation, etc...
Jan, how long have you been playing?I used to play to, thinking of coming back to it
On a last note, I would like every1 to post their bicep and forearm size, preferebly relaxed :)

As in Scandinavian Blonde hair and tall genes
Only I'm 176cm, so I'm not very tall. Blonde, sexy and Scandinavian on the other hand;P
I started playing about 3.5 yrs ago or something... Maybe 4, I'm not sure:P
Oh, and slap bass kicks ASS!

Try legato picking, sweep picking and tapping.... They're all cooler than slap anyway:tongue:

I want to get a twelve string guitar eventually, I play mostly acoustic soft rock and classical, which is odd because I listen almost exclusively to metal on most days.
'course I've only been playing about seven months, but it's amazing to be sitting there thinking about how much you suck then trying to teach someone else basic stuff. you learn a lot and gain an absurd amount of finger strength and hand coordination in that time.

It was pretty average anyway.

I know this is an old thread, but I've been playing classical guitar for 8 years and electric guitar for 5. You dont really get an increase in forarm size unless you are playing electric guitar with a pick, since the back and forth motion is what does it. Classical technique does make your fingers stronger though

As fretboardninja says, it would be in the picking hand. Because the fretting hand should stay as relaxed as possible (especially if you're a shredding-freak). The more you tense up the harder it will be to move around the fretboard.
And classical doesen't really do that much unless you play like tremolo for endless of hours (sueño en la floresta speed haha).

I play guitar to a pretty insane level (one dragonforce solo already conquered and I can even play 'Evening Star' (12 notes a second) but not very well yet. And yes i use a pick for that. And i play on average for 30-60 minutes a day (sometimes several hours).
Ive just had a look at my forearms and my picking arm seems about the same, and with a careful measurement using a pair of headphones, my right (picking arm) only has a negligeably larger circumference. (10.5 as opposed to 10 inches).
I would have thought that the bicep would have the greatest increase due the up/down movement but ive measured that too and both arms are teh same (12 in circumference).
And for the record, no i cant see the pictures either. jan, are you sure that you didnt get that extra strength in that one hand another way?

Bicep development should be next to noone. It's all wrist motion. Same goes to sweeping and chicken scratching, there is bicep/tricep motion but the emphasis should be on the wrist motion wich takes up most of the movement.
Both arms are equal. I slide and bend a lot though.
