Hi. I'm a newbie thinking of buying a camcorder to record my tricking sessions and was just wondering what would be a good one to get. Sorry, Don't know much about cameras and was just wondering what type of features you trickster types deem as being essential.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanx

Slow motion playback is a feature that may or may not come with the camera. It could be any number of types, so once you know what kind of camera you have, find and see if it has that feature. If you can transfer footage to your computer, most video editing programs will have a slow mo playback feature (also for editing). I'd recommend digital if you want better quality and have an easier time transferring footage to your computer. However if you don't care about that and just want to review your footage, you can do that with any analog cam or whatever. You really wouldn't have to spend more than $300 to get something decent with all the basics you need.

if you want slow motion so you can see what your doing, you can get any digital camera with 30 fps video (tigerdirect is really good) if you want smooth slow motion playback your looking at much more that a couple hundred like most digital cameras, tigerdirect has the microtek take it digital camera which is perfect for someone who doesn't care if the image isn't crystal clear

if you do want crystal clear then just go down to wal-mart or something and get some sony or canon camera for like 400-800 dollars there all pretty good, I don't know much about them cause im not rich, I work at mcdonalds!

Get a compact one so it's not as much of a hassle to carry it around.

Sony cybershot, round 212$ Prolly cheaper now, and even more on ebay.
Easy to use, easy to upgrade, easy to upload. I could go film a trick and have it uploaded to youtube in less than 8 minutes. "

I would take a picture of it, but I reached a paradox

pretty much any digital mini-dv camcorder will work. if all you want is to record your trick sessions, watch them, and show them off on the internet. if you want really cheap, go for ebay, but always be cautious when buying stuff on ebay.

Well my new cam is a Canon ZR500. It's a digital MiniDV, and it's quite nice for only $300.

I have a Sony HC21... the camera's picture quality isn't the greatest, but it's good enough for tricking (I don't need crystal-clear picture of just tricking)It can stream via USB port, so loading footage is pretty quick for me. It has slow-motion playback and other features I don't use. I bought it for $400 but I think I saw it the other day for 350ish. It's compact and has a touch-screen and unless you want really clear picture I'd recommend it.

yeah what mickey said, you can literaly buy any miniDV camera these days and it will do what you want it to just buy the cheapest one lol. however considering you are from england you will be wanting to buy a pal camera (25fps) rather than an nstc one (29.98fps).

tho in reference to ebay, be WARNED when buying electricals. you will not have any warrenty unless it states otherwise

edit:
and always buy off of the internet, you will get it 100's of ounds cheaper than if you buy it from a highstreet shop!

useful websites:
ebuyer.co.uk
amazon.co.uk
savastore.co.uk
froogle.co.uk

AVOID pixmania, customer service is terrible. my camera broke and it took then 6 weeks to repair it!

the reason why the camera picture quality isnt great might be because you upload it via USB... unless you mean its shitty quality on the lcd screen on the camcorder or something.

You can go to www.camcorderinfo.com to learn everything you need to know about camcorders. after i learned everything and did my research, i just got lazy and decided to click on their "highest rating camera's" or something and bought my ZR400 from ebay.

I've heard great things about this camera, plus my girlfriend has one.

I have a Panasonic GS 19. the reviews I read said the picture quality is just as good as the sony in high light conditions, but is let down by its performance in lower light. But I chose it over the sony cos its practally half the price:) I got it for £180 from www.pricerunner.co.uk

Yeah that's part of the reason.. I could use firewire too and that'd help.
the camera, however, only has .67 megapixels.. which is the major reason my picture will never be ultra clear, but for tricking.. who cares

standard video camera (dv) resolution is only like 0.41 megapixels (720x576) which is what the majority of people on this forum use. if you switch to firewire your video quality will uncrease tenfold
