People says all the time : "Be careful with the backflip, don't break the neck!"
But is it really possible?
I really don't remember any guy/girl who breaks the neck in a backflip attempt!
So the question is, is it possible?
(I know it may sounds as a stupid question, but i need an answer, to kick it out of my head)
-Thanks:smile:

It is impossible...just like backflips.

This question is ridiculous.

Of course it is possible. I've never seen it happen to anyone, but I am sure it could if you have downsyndrome or something.

A guy's friend on here died two years ago of a backflip crash - not from breaking his neck, but from brain trauma. And yes, you can break your neck from crashing on your head obviously.

You can break your neck on a lot more tricks than just a backflip.

Yah, this is true. Although Joel had a nasty wipeout and he is fine.

sk8erGRIND from Ch2 i think it was, he tried to teach his bro to bflip and he broke his neck and died
I would have thought you'd have to have very weak bones or neck muscles to be able to do that. What an unlucky fella!

It makes me weary of teaching people, I mean, I am not afriad of ever breaking someones neck but if I did I would feel horrible.

Yeah but Joel I heard believes in Scientology and at the last second Xenu and his spaceships came down and cushioned his fall. Although noone else saw them because you need to be thetan lvl VIII to see Xenu and his spaceships. Believe in Scientology and you will never die tricking!

Breaking your neck could happen but would be extremely rare, plus, from what i've heard, the guy who died, he did a backflip off a height onto cement and landed straight on his head. You wouldn't die doing a backflip on normal grass, i've had my head smacked into the ground, 40 miles per hour (bike accident) onto grass, and i just walked away, with a little cut on the side of my head (there was a rock unfortunately where i hit my head)

Shido, your Bison picture is awesome!

Also, get your need strong as hell if you want to be on the safe side. Do neck rolls on the wall and then eventually on the ground. Do things like bridges for your back and if you DO wipe out, you won't die.

If you're scared of breaking your neck, keep falling on it from greater heights, and you'll condition it. This is why I'm losing the fear of doing a wallflip. Nuuu

I agree, I had headache for the day landed on my shoulders attempted a backflip on a fat mat.....thats probably the worse that could happen if you try it on soft surface.

If there is one thing i would risk my life doing its tricking. I love it so so much. Sure breaking ur neck is a scary as fuck hting to think about, but then again i also believe if u know what you are doing then there is no way to break ur neck.

I've crashed a backflip on skis going about 20 miles per hour and with about 30 feet of air, on my head and walked away. TWICE I've crashed a doublefrontflip from hieght onto my head and walked away, i can do headsprings, i've crashed a wallflip on my head, i've tried and invvert rais threesixty that literally drilled my head into the ground and i was ok,i've crashed a few backflips on my head and been ok. I've crashed doublebacks on my head on a mat and walked away. I crashed gainers on my head learning them to get over the fear. I crashed a gainer from height so that my head went between two matts and my body kept going horizontal across the ground and survived. I'm pretty much a tank

You could always think of all the possible ways you can fall and still not break the neck.

There's like 2398561385195 ways you can crash in a backflip and not break the neck, or break anything actually.

For some reason, I read this thread. Stood up, walked outside and did a backflip. *random*

or.... a tornado kick.

I mean one time I was doing a tornado kick then all of a sudden my body was inverted and BAM, I drilled my head into the ground.

ya... that's my story with the inverted tornado kick.

never heard of anyone breaking the neck in a regular backflip.. triple frontflip on tramp on the other hand! some guy in denmark tried it and landed on his face or w/e, broke his necka and died. so if im not completely wrong, i think triple front on tramp is ILLEGAL in denmark nowadays.

that's insane, did he do it into a foam pit? or did he land outside of it

You'll only get injured on bails.

And you will more than likely only die if you fall from a significant amount of feet up while rotating at a certain speed onto concrete/rock type surfaces.

I doubt any trauma from falling on pylo or even grass could cause any serious damage, although if you fall at a terrible angle you'll probably get broken or sprain bones/joints.

Dont worry man, although it is theoretically possible to break your neck doing a backflip, the chances of it happening a next it impossible, I've crashed on my head heaps of times Lol, my friend has even done it on concrete and we were all ok and back tricking a few days later

well im not some kind of expert but i pretty much
know why the chances of getting injured in the head are very small..
(not talking about death.. that can happen if you just from higher place to lower place most chances).

*well first you will always subconsciously defend your head from impact..
*if your an adult or close to end of your puberty your muscles in the neck
will easily stand the hit... just saying its obvious the stronger your
muscles are there the smaller are the chances to get injured...
*even if you do it the head and have some kind of feeling that its not fine
most chances its not permant.

dont think it can help much to anyone who has the fears.. because i have them too and it dosent help me.. but if you really want to convience yourself noting will happen try to use it i guss :P

See those breakdancers who flip backwards and land purposely on their heads? Some weird stall thing...anyway, my point is that the neck can take a lot, although I don't recommend trying that move, it's retarded.

dude thats my prob... every single person ive tried to teach tricks to has broken something, lets see... arm, foot, toe, leg, and a face to ground on a backflip attempt... ive stopped trying to teach people:worry:

But yeah, shaolin, as long as your careful theres practically 0 percent chance of breaking your neck. Just DO NOT BAIL ON A BACKFLIP. If you jump and your planning on doing it, follow thru. If you wimp out in midair, then your screwed. Even then you prob wont break anything, but your almost certainly going to land on your neck/head/face. Make sure your prepared before you start - dont just jump and plan on figuring it out in midair

Practicing on my own without anyone there to get help makes you learn one very important thing.... listen to your body. If you think it's a bad idea or you should take a rest, that's probably a good idea.

It is almost proven that anyone who attempts this insane trick shall be paralized if not dead within a certain time.

Don't do it. Trickz are too dangerous for your health.
