View Full Version : X-outs landing on one knee ?

Hi.. I've been able to do backsaults for a few months now and recently at the beach I attempted an X-out. My first try felt crap, and i landed split leg and fell on my hands after, but my friend (who I often go to the beach and trick with) said the actual X-out was good, just the landing sucked. I tried a few more, concentrating on a more vertical jump and experimenting with the timing of when to bring my legs together after the X-out and by my 4th attempt I had it pretty good and landing it standing up, much like how a backsault is landed.

I have a video of my first successful X-out, except its at my friends place on magnetic tape.. if I get hold of it before this thread dies I'll consider posting it.

Anyway, on to the question.. I've noticed that a lot of people do X-outs landing on one knee and one foot.. I was just wondering why. Is this useful for combo-ing? ..or are these people trying to conceal their bad landing ?

If this is a stupid question I apologize, I've only recently gotten into tricking and currently the furthest I've come in connecting moves together is throwing random crescent kicks and spinning sweeps around 540s ;P~ ..but otherwise, opinions please.

I belive this landing is done just out of style, for a cooler look.

ahh k... i thought there -must- be another reason for it other than to conceal a crappy landing, cos i've seen people who seem as though the could land it upright but just.. didn't =/

maybe it's just a matter of taste then, in which case..
I don't like it ;P~

Yea it just makes it look sweet. Coolest-looking x-out landing I've seen is in the "dream on-trick on" music vid, where the girl does it with one hand on the ground and one behind her.

Just land the X-out flat on your belly. That's the best way.

Will watch your video after i shower and hopefully offer some help, my connection is being shaped right now so hopefully that'll be enough time for me to get it.

---- okay watched it

It's a bit hard to see how far you're leaping backwards (from front on angle) but it seems a fair distance. Most likely, you're leaning backwards before your take off. For your backsault, you might still make it fine because you can gain more height and rotation speed by tucking. With an X-out you won't really be able to get away with jumping backwards as much.

When I learnt backsaults I used to jump backwards over a metre, because I leaned back jumping. I found it helped to walk forwards up to a spot on the floor and then backsault immediately, because when i stood still too long I tended to lean back and do it crappily.

actually if you watch a really good x-out to knee, you will see they LAND the x-out first before dropping to knee. that actually makes the trick look kinda cool.

but then u do see others who can't land the xout but just land to knee, and those look kind of painful and sloppy.

loderunner...

with normal bflips i takeoff and land on the same spot. With xouts i usually travel a little backwards, i went about back about 1/2 a foot that time.
