View Full Version : 540 fear
i'm not sure if it's really a fear but when i kick i suddenly put my non kicking leg on the ground, it looks like i do it by instinct... i've tried to force myself to land on the kicking leg and the only time it happend i landed tucked with the hands on the ground, what's the problem?
It could be fear, but jump higher and chamber the non-kicking leg in. You could sacrifice the kick a little until you get the feel for the rotation. Practice the tornado a little more, until you can land on both feet at the same time, hopefully that might help

This isn't even a fear issue. You're landing on your nonkicking leg first because you're not conditioned enough yet to do a 540. Practice tornado kicks more until they feel really floaty. They have to be good. Only then you should consider a 540. I hate it when people sacrifice the quality of their kick just to land on the kicking leg. That's a BAD habit.

Agreed. Either learn the move correctly, or just forget it. Nothing is uglier than forcing a 540. (Jhonny) Snugglefunked said it well before; the 540 is just the tornado but faster, more agressive, and more powerful. Work your tornados, and the 540 will come soon enough.

just keep drilling. heres how it went for me:
Once upon a time, fosskers had shitty tornado kicks. All the other tornado kickers from the village made fun of him, but fosskers kept on trying to improve.
One day, a magical fairy descended from the sky while fosskers was doing his tornado kicks. She said, "Your hard work has paid off, I will now bless you with a good tornado kick!"
Fosskers went back to the village and showed the other kickers his newly aquired tornado. They were impressed.
The next week, he absently tried a 540, and landed.
Fosskers and his 540 got married, had 3 kids named crescent, laydown, and gyro, and they all lived happily ever after.
That's pretty much EXACTLY how it happened. :good:
hahahahahaha well i'll wait for the fairy  :good: thanks

edit: lol fosskers XD

ill keep working on it but right now im focusing on a backflip and aerial
ive been having trouble as well, i dont think im conditioned enough, and reading this i will go try to feel more "floaty" i only have a vertical of about 10 inches, which is terrible! i know that the center of gravity is important, but im not good at either, so im in a real stink!
well heres to my first post! anyways, im really sore from a lot of running and stuff, so im debating whether to keep trying or to take a break... any suggests?

alrite.....
1. work on center of gravity...just work on doing 360 spins. Keep drilling them until you can just stand there, and just bend your knees and do a 360 and land back where you started without any trouble.
2. do 540 spins in the same fashion as above. Just stand there, bend you knees, and jump...spin...land so that your feet are about where you started, but facing the other way.
3. work on tornado kicks. Throw your hips up a bit when you go to kick. Make yourself go UP! with all the work on spinning, tornado kicks should be easy to complete the spin and you should be able to just work on your height.
4. start drilling the 540's.
You need to work on your jumping and spinning (center of gravity shit and air awareness) before you start doing other tricks. the 540 is IMO the best starting trick because it works on your jumping and spinning ability. Once you can land a nice 540, the rest of the spinning and kicking tricks shouldnt be too hard.
So....drill ur 540's!!!! and if u cant 540....drill your spins and jumps n kicks!!!!and then drill 540's. =)

it took me....like prolly 2 - 3 months to get my 540. you dont actually need a whole heck of a lot of vert, its not that much of a jumping move.
@chosen': me no habla italian!
but i do speak italian
anyway, i've saw a lot of samplers of different tricksters and yes it's more a spin-type move then a jumping one, u always need to jump of course but i think that a low jump but flash spin 540 it's cooler then an higher one but slower...that's me

Are you thinking about the kicking leg too much? Try focusing more on the arms, body and non-kicking leg more to lead the path for the kicking leg to go through.

yep, I was in the exact same situation.
Just practise tornados, and when you give up, do another 100.
And one day you will have such a high and powerful 540 that you won't drop your non kicking leg.
It's because you don't have enough height.

Yeah they're really nice!:juji:
But I think the best 540 I have ever seen, is the 540 from Matthew Mullins (Yes i know he's gay:tongue: )
