Default Split questions

I've been working front and side splits for about a month now, and have gotten down about 4 inches deeper than I started. When I stretch, I lower down into a side split and hold for 20-30 seconds, then turn over on my right side for a front split and hold, then back to sidesplit, and then turn over to a left front split, and back to side, then repeat. I was wondering if I should continue stretching like this, or should I do them completely separate?

This works OK for the sidesplits. In the front splits, though, you are going into the stretch with your pelvis twisted to one side. This is fine for now, but eventually you will want to have the front splits with your pelvis squared toward the front. But until you think you have the "twisted" front splits down, don't stress to much.
I know the whole concept of hip alignment is confusing, and I may not have worded it too well.

Yeah, in the second diagram, the pelvis is squared to the right, the legs lean to the left.

However, in this manner of side splits, is this a proper form? I've been stretching like this also, but looking at Juji's tutorials, should we be more vertically aligned? Or is it fine this way (I'm assuming you're leaning forward jkarate212)?

I don't see anything wrong with it, that's how I saw Kurz stretch in a video once. Once you get good flexibility, it makes sens to do that. It would work out your flexilibility in any range between front/side too.
