There's this kid at my karate school who can do splits all 3 ways, can kick way above his head, and is is extremely fast with all his kicks. I also noticed that he never warms up before stretching, which I even asked him the other day. What makes this possible?
Also, when sore, is it ok to lightly stretch when cold. I'm currently very sore from a workout and have been trying to do some hamstring stretches as I sit down every once in a while. Is this bad? To be honest I'm not feeling any relief in my hamstrings as I stretch cold like this, but every time I want to do a warm up it feels like I'm just gonna make myself more sore by doing it. |

Some people are flexible since they are kids.
You don't know how they train as adults. Some kick from morning to night. So when you see them kick, they are actually warmed up without you knowing it. |

Ah well, people like this will always be on our envy. As we get older, our muscles tend to take longer to elongate when we're trying to get back in the groove of flexibility. So don't feel discouraged if you think you're constantly being showed up by this kid, I've been back at TKD for a while after a couple years, and trust me, I lost a lot of my flexibility too. But hopefully with your stretches you'll see the improvement here and there. Maybe last week you couldn't hug your legs, now you're putting your face to your knees. Take note of those little gains.
