I have heard it suggested, mainly from Juji, that stretching while sore with DOMS can compound and prolong the soreness. Dynamic stretches are excellent for a temporary relief from DOMS'ed legs, and to gain range of motion, but shortly afterwards, the DOMS returns fully.
Static passive stretching is supposedly the worst, I guess maybe PNF stretching could be, infact. I am frequently, if not constantly, sore, currently. I have had times in the past where I have had no DOMS at all, with insane training volumes, and I'm endevouring to regain that condition - but for now I have to deal with it. I want to be able to stretch, long-duration static stretches, specifically. If it will worsen my DOMS, I won't. If it has no effect, I certainly will. Although the greatly-reduced ROM resultant from DOMS perhaps makes stretching somewhat useless when sore; I wouldn't be challenging my true ROM at all. So, stretching may temporarily alleviate muscle soreness, but does it infact worsen it, increasing recovery time? Thanks --Joe |

Not getting enough protein in your diet can make you stay sore for longer (after all you need protein to repair your muscles). Do you think this could be your problem?

I know why my recovery ability sucks.. well, I can trace it back a few more steps at least, but in the end I don't actually know "why" those preceeding conditions arose. I'm lying on my back atm in this stretch: ![]() ... but I can only get about 90 degrees or less, haha |

You can do static stretching when you have DOMs, I advise it. However I suggest not to be striving to achieve new grounds in flexibility when your muscles hurt this much. Just stretch to provide relief and to prevent excessive loss of flexibility.
