One of my friends says stretching mid-day is most effective, and before bed is almost pointless. Is this true, and if so why?

hey there,
Personally I would have thought that going for a good warmup and stretch in the morning would have been the best. cause as the day goes on your body naturally gets more flexible so making it really flexible in the morning would have been best. cheers |

Well i do some dynamic in the morning dynamic before a workout then isometric and relaxed after the work out. Works really well. Do the morning ones before breakfast.

Warm up throroughly in the morning, and then stretch, and you will feel looser and more energetic throughout the day. But in the evening, since you've been up and about all day, your muscles are relaxed and warm, so you can get the most out of a good stretching session.
Your best bet is to stretch a little in the morning, a little in the afternoon, and then have a good session in the evening. Then your body will heal while you are asleep and you can do it all again tomorrow. |

When I was in high school I would often stretch on my lunch hour. Sometime's I'd even go to the local gym to do cardio. If anyone gives you crap for stretching or exercising, kick them in the eye.

I heard that before bed was a good time to stretch. Who am I to believe!?
It's pretty much the only time I'm in the mood/ have time to stretch though so I don't really care either way. |

There's no point in discussing the optimal time to do anything unless you have a completely free schedule. Doing something consistently is much much more important than the time of day you do it during. Let's say it's most effective to stretch at 8am. Your schedule has you busy every day at 8am except for sundays. You have nights free every night. Will you get better results by stretching once a week on sunday mornings or stretching throughout the week at night? |
