I'm 17 years old. Will I be able to stretch my body well enough or am I already too old? Does age influence the ability to stretch?

Age only affects rate at which flexibility can be gained, the older you get the more time it may take, but your age should have little or no impact on the extent of how much flexibility you can gain.
I'm not saying everybody is capable of kissing their own arse, but unless you want to become a contortionist you should be fine. |

Thanks. Now I'll know that it is worth stretching.

Actually, from talking to various instructors and reading up what I can, I've found it's actually kind of a reverse situation. You benefit less from stretching at a younger age because the majority of the connective tissue is not finished developing, so stretching can (in some cases, not all) cause scar tissue that prevents it from growing properly. But when the body is more or less done growing the connective tissue can start to be trained via stretching and exercising.

Thats Thomas Kurz who could do Oversplits with 20. Not the best example...
And yeah if you are older it takes a longer time to develop flexibility. I am 24 and i stretch every day for 1 hour since 2 months now. And i think it will take 2 months more to get the splits. |

No i dont have a desk job. But its very easy to get the splits when you are young and in puberty or before puberty.
And everybody is different. But i have 2 friends who started to stretch at the same time i did. And their progression is the same as mine. I do a stretching routine that is very similar to flex mutants program. And i do isometrics every second day. |
