I used to do mine with palms facing me, but then I starting using a door at home with palms facing away, and now it's my preference. I feel that when doing them palms away, you work your forearms more.
I'm thinking how it applies practically. If I were to heave myself up onto a ledge in real life I would do it hanging with palms facing away. Should I do both or is on more beneficial overall than the other? ![]() |

Well, its main aim is to hit the traps (top part of the back). Arms are just secondary.
Doing them, palms facing you, hits the biceps more. My preference is dead hang palms away. |

" really concentrate on form rather than number of reps." How is this form? isn't it just pulling yourself up using arms instead of gathering momentum with your legs to kinda swing you up?

by form he means that you concentrate on pulling eavenly with the arms, keeping your back straight and hold your legs together. As with everything else, keep good form.

You should change the distance and hand-grip regularly anyway to hit different parts of diff muscles, and not go all mouldy and stuff... :p
But yeh, wide arm with palms facing away is best, traps are quite hard to hit without lat pulldowns/chins, biceps can be dont billions of ways. |

I personally do both. A lot of times you will see a bar shapped like:
____ /____\ Well that's no good but you know what I mean. With palms out, the farther down the tilt you go, the more you will work the lats, and some upper back too, but you can even focus on bicepts with palms out if your grip is close enough. Like others said, mix it up. |
