Default Is leaving your abs contracted during the day a good exercise?

I mean, if I keep my abs contracted (not while doing crunches or sit ups, but while standing or sitting, you know using your muscles to make your stomach hard) while i do stuff like watching classes or waiting on queues, is it good exercise?

It'll help, yeah. I do it on a constant basis. At first it'll be slightly difficult, but you get use to it. It'll also help with your posture.

It'll only help posture if your posture is bad due to your lower back muscles being too strong. Usually bad posture is a result of abdominals being too strong because people neglect lower back training.

I could try keeping my bicep flexed the entire day, but it would probably just distract me from all the other stuff I want to do, like pay attention to class. It's probably better to do intermittant exercises and activities that use it that also double as skills, while relaxing the rest of the time.

Passive exercise is usually a good idea only if it aids in your daily habits and health (like sitting up straight, or lifting without a rounded back), or if you couldn't do much better if you were focusing solely on it (such as vacuums, or kegal exercises).

This is my case. My back is superior, and I get a leaned-back posture from it. Contracting the abs really help.

Contracting your abs makes it too difficult to breathe properly for it to be healthy over such a long period of time. =/

Train your vacuum so that you can suck your stomach in like old time bodybuilders. Other than that, it's not particularly advantageous. If you're buff, you'll find that you automatically half-contract your abdominals throughout most of the day in order to do the tall manly walk.
