Inspired by seth1's thread starting thread, I've decided to post my own thread to keep track of my tricking journey.
I started out not even able to hold a handstand. I'm embarrassed to even post these (my week 1 videos) since I look a little retarded doing them, but everyone starts out as a newbie. I'll keep updating this front page as I get better. WEEK 1: I realize I have no skills yet. The Newbie Aerial The Tired Handstand The Newbie Au Batido (Notice how pasty white and weak I am in these vids) WEEK 2 Strength Train Stretch WEEK 3 Strength Train Stretch WEEK 4: Still working on technique of basic moves. Drilling the basics. WEEK 5: Nailed some new moves Backhand spring, 540, and Double Leg are all mine now. 1)Backhand spring was fucking scary on first try... pretty easy after you get the technique. 2)540 is pretty easy, just sucks if you land too hard on your leg. 3)Double Leg feels natural. Only problems is having too much momentum and rolling on ground after I land. WEEK 6: First Trip to the Gym After 5 weeks of working out and getting better technique I decided I was not embarrassed to go to a public gym to see if it was better than my front yard. In some ways it was and in some it was not. The gym's floor is crazy bouncy when compared to my front yard. Because it's bouncy though, I was able to land my moves a LOT easier than it was in the front yard. I've decided that the Gym is a better place to practice new moves, and the yard is better for refining the technique. Anyway, I also realized recently that "Nin-Tu" does not in fact mean "Bringer of Death" but is actually the name of some female godess in ancient sumaria... *sigh*. I'll keep the name as a memorial to the practical joke that was played on me. Anyway, the practice in the gym was worthwhile. I finally got a solid back hand spring (my previous one worked but it looked shitty), and was able to work on some of my other moves. Kind of freaky to walk into a gym and be the only guy there (Ages ranging from about 6 to 20)... it makes you question if a guy belongs in a gym. However, I just said, "Fuck it, I'll try it out.", and after a few kicks, I did not feel as strange. After you start doing some moves, you don't even remember that there are about 40+ female eyes starring at you. The next day, I just rested and stretched. I'll trick some more tomorrow if I feel I've healed enough. One thing I've learned about tricking by myself... know when to stop and when to press yourself. Also, I FINALLY got my aerial... looks somewhat like a bastard child of an actual aerial and butterfly kick, but it works for now. Goals this week: Practice known moves more Goals next week: Try a few new moves out (including butterfly twist, back flip, gainer, and raiz) It's strange that I'm not scared to try a gainer or raiz before a back flip... somehow the backflip seems more dangerous.
