I'll try and make this short but today I tried to do an aerial. I watched the tutorials online and read up on them and I went to the cheerleading place I go to to practice. I set a mat in front of me and ran and punched and attempted to bring my other leg up and over like on the tutorial. I did the move wrong a few times and then on one attempt I crashed on my head pretty hard. I was in a kneeling position for like 5 minutes holding my head and I had trouble even functioning/thinking (literally). For about and hour or two after that I was a bit shook up and I even called a buddy of mine on my way home and he said I was talking slurred/slow. So basically I think I had a minor concussion of sorts and it definetely heightened my fear to an extent.
The problem is I am almost on my one month mark of tricking and I still cant do a backtuck by myself without a spot. I can do it with a guy just standing there...JUST standing there doing nothing, but the moment he walks away I get scared and I cant overcome the fear. I made a post about fear earlier but now I'm worried it will be alot larger after this aerial injury. When you all experience a bad injury, is it as easy as suck it up and drive on? How do you keep tricking if you keep hurting yourself and increasing your fear? Sorry to sound like such a wuss but for some reason the fear of tricking in general gets to me badly. I dont want to give up and be some cliche, but I need help getting over fear and figuring out how to have the attitude of just letting go and trying again. Thanks for any tips/flames/etc :D. |

well, you landed on your head doing an aerial. this shouldn't affect your backflip at all, right?
other than that, you're still walking, talking, and functioning well enough after that bad crash. in reality, that's probably the worst crash you'll ever have doing an aerial again. don't fret it, just move on and conquer it. |

You didn't actually fail man, you just learned how not to do an aerial haha. As long as you don't do it wrong again, your set.

how did you land on your head...in an aerial...
the aerial really isn't that hard. i think you should work on your one handed cartwheels if you cant get past your head. i have the same problem of fear though...still havn't attempted a btuck |

iamsobored0056 said right, try one handed cartwheels first till you can feel the move of your body perfectly then retry to do an aerial...better if you have a friend with a cam so you can see what you are doing wrong. I learn aerial trough running aerial (i think it is easier). Don't make you owned by the fear but do tons of movements ;) evryone of us had an injury and probably we injury ourself many times again.....but we love tricks ;)

for the backtuck, try letting the spotter move away one step, and then do one, then another step, then do one, etc.

Yes Exactly what Alexx said, if you at the stage were the spotter doesn't do anything, the best way to get rid of him is to do one, then the next one, he takes one, step back, then one step more then another until he's like 5 meters away and you'll realise you don't need him

Maybe you should've "listned" to the tutorial as well,I recall him saying to throw your leg up and jump, rather then just lifting your leg and throwing your head in the ground.
