I'm trying to get aerials, but I'm having a hard time even doing one handed cartwheels. Most people say that one handed cartwheels are easy, so I figure there must be something wrong with my cartwheel. I've gotten a few one handed cartwheels, but only with my first hand planted and never reliably. Here is a video of my sad cartwheel. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not bad for a cartwheel, it's a tad slow and your legs could be straighter. just work on it

I think it might be that you just have to practice it more. I think your cartwheel looks fine... I think.... Can you do hand stands? It might make it easier since you have to hold all your weight on one hand for the one handed cartwheel.
Other than that I have no idea what to do to help. Sorry.. Good Luck anyways |

Ok, I'll practice them more. It seems my cartwheel hardly improves though, and whenever I try one handed cartwheels I rarely get them. Occasionally I'll land them but it feels all wrong, like I just got lucky that my foot hit before my hand. I first landed a one handed cartwheel maybe 2 months ago, and I've landed them on multiple occasions since then, but only about 1 in 20 I try.
EDIT: Oh wow, I just watched Juji's cartwheel from his aerial exampler, and he reaches his first foot waaaaay farther forwards than I do. I asked my sister to do a cartwheel and I watched her, and she's reaching a lot farther forwards as well. This could be the reason I've always had a hard time kicking up behind me with my back foot. I'll give it a try and see how it goes. Last edited by Pobeli; Apr-29-06 at 02:49 PM.. |

I practiced quite a bit more and I think they're a bit better now, but I still can't get them reliable with one hand. Most of the time I just can't get my foot under in time and I put my second hand down before landing. Sometimes I can keep from putting my hand down, but then I land all layed out on my side. Occasionally I can land them, but they seem slow and weak, and I can't get them reliable. Anyone have any tips on learning to do them with one hand? I know it's pathetic that I can't, but we have to start somewhere, right? At least I'm not giving up.

Throw your non landing hand over forcefully, and make sure that you're jumping with all of your leg, all the way to the toes. Like use your calf muscle too I mean. You're ready for one handed cartwheels when you have a whole bunch of momentum left over after a normal cartwheel.

Just keep practicing your one handed cartwheels and you'll get them. It's just about how familiar you are with that you'd be able to do them right all the time.

Made this thread a few days ago. My one-handed cw is not very good either but getting better. Also watch the vid from another guy in the same thread. He seems to have a pretty good one. |
